This too I find very odd. I have never thought of Egyptian "colloquial" as something different from Moroccan "spoken." Are spoken and colloquial different things now? Are all the Arabic examples counted as one language or 4 or 5 of the nine?

| Indeed, it was entertaining. As for myself, I am only a rocket scientist with two doctorates. I invented the first application of cold fusion. I presented my findings at a presentation in Geneva at the United Nations Conference on Cold Fusion Applications but the literature I published was subsequently deleted from my iPhone. In any case, I prefer to impart my pearls of wisdom in a Saudi military classroom where I can also learn more about the culture. |

Well... it was an entertaining bit of fiction to pass a slow summer afternoon.

Apped deletions: How apt! How very Uber-contemporary!
Back in my time lecture notes disappeared from the palms of our hands. |

VS, just to clarify. I did, in fact, finish my B.A. and B.Sc., both with Honors, when I was 14. The MD and the first doctorate (a D.Sc.) went "doubled-up, so that the doctoral side required only an advanced research directive, which I completed in nine months under the auspices of a lab at NIH. The other two doctorates were completed over a period of time while I was employed at University from an assistant professor onward. I have also been in-school every summer since I was 13, making use of this "free time" to work on my own academic edifications.
Is this a problem? Does the math work out for you yet? I can assure you that my dating profile is just as detailed--and for that reason I rarely get any responses! It's not that no one believes me (again, the sense of doubt in your voice? I am not you, and just because I managed to do undergrad in 2 full years instead of what many see as a six-year program [2 years alloted for a drunken stupor, I suppose?] ought not give you needs for pause.).
Perhaps we have touched upon another issue here--the lack of any real intellectual drive among so many university-bound (or is the word actually "bound and gagged"?) students in the United States.
Or did you oversleep and miss the first lecture in Soc 101: Judge not everything by your own cover. Not everything in this world needs conform to your "standard." Some are slower. Some are faster. And some just cannot understand the actual need for your post in the first place--was the topic my credentials? Or was it issues with KAU? Were this a freshman comp[ course, I'd have asked you to attend a remedial lecture or two, at least until you learned to determine such matters as "tone," "audience" and "staying on topic." Ever heard of avoiding digressions? But then, I suppose, I digress. . .. |

OK. We get it. A beautiful mind and all that jazz. Did you stop taking your medication or something? Please let's get some info for us lowly BA holders with THREE language instructor certificates and hands on Saudi classroom experience.

Mr. Beautiful Mind in his divine and borderline way has pulled an academic background out of a mayonnaise jar on Funk & Wagnell's porch. Had Einstein applied to a university in the Gulf Middle East he would never have regained his street creds. You see, Einstein WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT. But, of course, Einstein was a mere Curly Howard compared to our eminent guest.
Beautiful Mind's BSc.? It's called a B.S. in the States, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt; maybe he's a transplanted Brit. Yes, BS for sure. |

I throw my hands up in the air, I do. What the hellis wrong with you guys?
The B.Sc. is not just a British degree. And FYI, I studied in the USA, in Japan, in China and in Germany and France.
But why are you such arses about this matter? The subject was salary at KAU. I provided a context within which to understand the arbitary and capricious nature of some offers, but obviously you guys are here to bear-bait rather than to have a discussion.
But I am compelled to note:
1) the use of alleged--commonly used in a court of law, in particular when someone is on trial. What the hell are you thinking? I am not on trial. The subject--and I reiterate is the issue of salary. Focus, dudes!
2) Colloquial, spoken and the like: get into a linguistic course on Arabic and perhaps you'll understand the in-field nuances of these terms. Otherwise, don't comment on something you have only a half-ass understanding of at best.
And 3) leave me alone. I simply provided information. And what is your response? Either you fail to understand that this thread is on KAU or you are looking to insult. The former is regretable; the latter is sad and worse. Lord help us that your sorts might be allowed into the classroom--if you cannot focus long enough to discuss an issue intellegently without resorting to insult and "attaching the messenger" (where did you learn the principles of rhetoric and argumentation?), then you are neither teaching nor serving adequately as a glorified babysitter.
Basically, Dave, or whoever monitors this board, is there not some requirement against such flaming? against such personal attacks?
Obviously not.
So, next time you feel an urge to impugne me or my credentials, look mback at yourself--if you'd stop wasting time with such matters and focus on building your own set of credentials, you might actually amount to a hill of beans. As you stand, you leave the appr=earance--indeed, the odor--of a refuge heap or worse. Ever used a Turkish or Chinese toilet?Aha, maybe you've failed to wash your hands/shoes/seat of your trousers thereafter. I am left smelling sheit--and the source is ar too obvious.
And lastly, Nigeria, so says some misinformed soul. From the beginning, I noted that I am a Caucasian male. Sound Nigerian to you?
Damn but stupidity knows no limits, obviously.
Worse, have you nothing better to do?
I am out of here. Try and help and get sheit on--no more, I can assure you.
And if you must, contact me by PM, okay? Stop wasting the time of others in this forum. |

It all still begs the question... why would this paragon of world education... with all his supposedly fancy degrees... want to teach ESL at a third rate university in a country like Saudi Arabia. That isn't a sabbatical, this is masochism...
...but at least he turned it down.

| Thanks VS, I stand corrected. I did think the "B.Sc." was strictly British nomenclature. When I left the student world it was only "B.S." in the U.S. |
