Mark

There was tragic news today on this Bridge English story? Is it public knowledge?

I will check the TOS and see if there are objections to me posting.

I was waiting to post this until it was confirmed but the the Bridge English School I mentioned some months ago in posting, well the worst has happenned.

I am still in shock but owners Mr. Burak M----- , staff Mr. Gurcan G---- and Mr. Erkan Y----- ( I name them for obvious reasons--they are all family BTW) have come about as close as you can get to homicide.

The native speakers and local staff went unpaid for months. It turns out the cleaning lady from Anatolia was too embarassed to tell anyone that she wasn't being paid. Her apartment electricity and water was cut off some months ago because she couldn't pay the rent. Late last week her brother living with her committed suicide because of the situation. He had been unemployed for 6 months and unable to fnd a job.

Our hearts go out for to the cleaning woman and her family. May he Rest in Peace.

Anyone who would like to help out--- no money please-- but food might be helpful, we will try to get it to her, please PM me.

Yes Eclectic

Unfortunately It is true.

The poor woman's family even came to work begging for her money after the cami.

There is a special place for these people and in addition to going to hell, I hope they go directly to prison. Luckily (unluckily) there were many teachers at the school and there will be plenty of witnesses in court.

You know I think it is easy to go off the deep end when you haven't been unemployed for some time. And as a male (in Turkey) you have to rely on your sister, then she doesn't get paid. Well, you are sitting in the dark and cold and you just see no way out. I just wonder if she had told one of the teachers if they might have been able to get her out of the situation before it happened.

Anyway prayers are with the woman and she is going back to the village but the staff is trying to get some food boxes for her.

The police are still investigating culpability from what I understand and have not arrested the owner yet. Please make sure guys that he does NOT flee the country. PLEASE

unfofrtunately, as far as my legal knowledge is concerned, even if a crook deosnt pay, I dont think he can be held liable for a suicide. I have heard of emotional turmoil/punitive damages, etc. so maybe the woman can go that route, but I suspect it will be really really difficult to hold the owner accountable for her brother's suicide.

Yes I agree--no lawyer here-- but for the teachers back wages he might be imprisoned as far as I know if the District Attorney (or whomever in the Turk system) can show fraud then he might go to jail. It appears that a systemic program of lying to students and taking their money constittes fraud.

As for the cleaning woman she and her family still didn't get their money.

Thank You to all the PMers offering food gifts for the cleaning woman at Bridge English school.

It is no longer needed as as teacher connected to Migros was able to help sponsor much.

Very Happy

Excellent web site Nisatex

It talks mainly about going to the police and fraud my girlfriend says. Also some links to the Ministry of Education and local police chief.

Apparently the photo at dinner says that these people are eating at a luxury residence while we have not textbooks

I heard the cleaning lady has still not been paid---
