After a successful trial phase, Russell Hampton, president of Disney Publishing Worldwide, said the company wanted to expand from 11 to 148 schools across China in five years. It is a very sizeable opportunity, something that can deliver operating earnings of well over $100m in the next five years, he said in an interview.
The schools are open to children aged one to 11 and use a curriculum featuring Mickey Mouse, the Little Mermaid and other Disney characters. |

Disney is considering a distance learning scheme based on the curriculum it has developed, and a language training package that can be bought in retail outlets. We think the opportunity is broader than 150,000 kids per year, Mr Hampton said. |

Sounds interesting. Initially I thought that disney wasn't going to do well this century but there's a few things they've done....
they've diversified
they bought out Marvel so think of all the money made in the movies they've had in the past 10 or so years
They also own Pixar
they also own ESPN
they own the muppets (although not sesame street)
they own a chunk of a&e which includes the history channel and bio channel
On the surface it can appear odd that they are in the business but after looking them up a tad it makes sense. |

They also own ABC television and they have their own quite successful Disney Channel. They also own all of our souls. |

Haha, I saw an ad from them on the China board. I assumed it was some Chinese language school just trying to profit off of the Disney name, but the contact is at disney.com. I can't believe it's actually Disney brand English schools. What a marketing push! Seriously lollin over here. |

And don't forget, all those one-year olds will be, what, 10? by the time Shanghai Disney opens . . . they will have been raised on Mickey and Minnie, Donald and Daisy. They will sure be eager to have their parents take them to Disneyland over and over again! $$$$ |
