Hi folks...

Someone recently enquired about adult only work and this seems pretty hard to get in Taiwan..from what I can gather the money is in young kids

But how hard is it to avoid the ankle biters?
Being surrounded by elementary aged kids all day is my idea of a nightmare - should I forget about Taiwan??

What are the options for the kiddie phobic in Taiwan, are there any? No, unfortunately I don't have an MA.

Asian High school aged kids don't have quite such a negative effect on my sanity. Many of them in your classes? Much work in High schools there? Does it pay ok?

In my most recent job in Indonesia, it was mostly adults with only one class of kids or teens a day. Is that uncommon in the language schools over there?

Got a secondary school teaching qualification (if that helps) and a few years experience post TESOL.

Any advice welcome..apart from what i have read here today, I know nothing about the scene there.

Thanks

The teaching qualification certainly helps if you want to teach in high schools here. There are occassionally some ads for certfied high school teachers as well as junior high (if you are willing to go that low) on Tealit.com and taiwanted.com I know of one company that is often looking for editors and test writers for their teaching materials and they seem to always want to farm someone out to high schools to teach their materials. If you want that contact, pm me...

Yes, forget Taiwan unless you want a challenge. Why bother when you can teach adults in other countries and don't have to worry about finding a job at all or finding one that offers enough hours? By all means come and try if you want, but as my father used to say why make life anymore difficult than it already is. The market for adults here is non-existent. Taipei is the only place you'll be able to stand any chance and without an MA, you are stuck teaching in the very few adult cram schools there are and this means you have no choice and will just have to put up with whatever shit your boss throws your way because if you leave finding another job will mean going through the entire process again. There's work teaching adults here, sure, just is it really worth it?
