Happy Obon!
Anyway, I'm trying to book a bus ticket from Hyogo prefecture to Hiroshima for tomorrow. I've only been here 3 months so I'm not familiar with the process. I looked up night buses but it seems they're full. We're trying to keep it on the cheap, eveb though this is Obon. Anyone have any info on how/where I can figure this out? Thanks! (And yes, I did a search first ) |

I did a search on http://willerexpress.com/ but it didn't come up with anything. That's what I use when I go to Nagoya from Tokyo to visit my girlfriend. Cost ranges between 3000 and 4000 yen.
Of course I couldn't find anything for tomorrow. Why would you leave it so late to buy your ticket? Would you buy a plane ticket the day before you leave? |

It's sort of a spur of the moment plan. |

Hankyu runs highway buses between Miyoshi (central Hiroshima prefecture) and Osaka. Not sure about Hiroshima city and Osaka, though. The cost one-way is about 4400 yen and the trip takes about 4 hours. Check out this site. http://bus.hankyu.co.jp/highway.shtml
It's all in Japanese and making reservations requires Japanese skills.
Sorry if this info doesn't help you, LadyK. |

Ditto an earlier poster's confusion: Why the heck didja leave this 'til the last minute? Obon is an awfully busy time.
On a more helpful note, perhaps someone in your group has a car, and you could all carpool? This would have the added advantage of leaving you with transport at your destination.
I lived in Hiroshima city, and can let you know that while downtown has cable cars and buses in the daytime, night belongs to super-pricey taxis. Just to get from the bus station to the International / Japan Youth Hostel on the city border, you could pay more for the cross-town taxi than the bus ride to Hiroshima! |
