Hi all!

Just booked a 100hr TEFL course through TEFL Scotland and am going on this on the 2nd October. Having visited Barcelona a few times it would be a dream come true to work in or around there.

As I have no teaching experience I have set up, with a local college, to teach English to refugees and asylum seekers on a voluenteer basis when I have finished my course. The thing that I am a bit worried about is not having a degree, I didn't go to uni as I was offered a really good apprenticeship on leaving school and took that up instead, but having being made redundant last year have been struggling for work but have managed to find a good job working with homeless people to keep me going just now.

So come early next year I will have a TEFL qualification and a really good amount of teaching hours behind me, I'm also under no illusion that this makes me a fully qualified teacher but would this be enough to find work? Also another question on my mind is could I go out to Barcelona in say June, go into language school to try and get interviews and then set up a job to start in the September when the academic year starts!? I will also be looking to get in touch with TEFL Scotland and use their job placement service so I was wondering if any of use had any experience in using a job placement service as it seems quite good for a first timer like myself.

Well I'm going on a bit here, but thanks for reading this and any info for anyone can give me would be great!

Cheers

Thomas!

Frankly, you should gloss over the truth: you sound like a smart person, and you could have done some sort of degree, but chose not to.

Some of the best teachers I have met don't have degrees. You have working papers and experience and motivation. No school I have heard of here, apart from the British Council and International House ask for proof of degrees.

You'll be fine in 99% of schools in Spain.

Thanks a lot for the reply makes me feel a lot better!

I've been looking at pages and pages of this today, looks like the best time to be here is September to find work, so coming out at the start of the summer to set up a job for September would be a waste of time!?

Also the website you promote seems a good service to get your CV seen at lots of different schools.

Cheers
