I got an offer of 30000 SR a month to teach English at KSU. I need to speak with anyone who is working there at present. Do you like working at KSU? Does the offer seem right to you? how much does rent cost? how are the working hours? how is the working environment? How many months of paid vacation do you get a year? if you have children, how much does school cost? Thank you. and you can send me to my email address at [email protected] and please write KSU in the subject area. |

$8000.00 US per month. Roughly 30000 SAR. If this is right then you have higher credentials than most of us. If I'm not mistaken then you are being hired on as a prof. or assistant prof. $100000.00 to $110000.00 US per anum is base for profs. but you may not have some required experience or degree is in a different field.

I have a Master of Education plus 14 years teaching experience. So they are paying that much at KSU? because it seems a lot of money, not that I am complaining but I am only worried that it might be a scam to get me there. Do you work at KSU?Thanks for replying. |

30000SR? Are you sure?
I have an MA in Applied Linguistics and several years' teaching experience in Saudi universities. But I was offered less than half that salary by KSU a few years back. Housing allowance could not be more than about SR3000 a month, so even if that is being included in your salary, I simply do not think there is any way KSU are offering you SR30000 a month. SR13000 would be more like it. |

I agree with Cleo. A Ph.D. with a full professorship and a bookshelf full of publications might get a salary like that, but not an English teacher, no matter what his/her credentials. TEFL teachers are just not all that hard to find.
(Did I get it right this time? It was Cleo and not VS?) |

Dear eliahaydon,
Was this a written or a spoken offer?
If spoken, well, thirteen thousand can sound an awful lot like thirty thousand.
Regards,

Yes it was me!
Actually, I doubt even someone with the qualifications you describe would get anything like SR30000 from KSU. Anywhere I've worked, even highly qualified PhDs only tend to get a few thousand a month more than an MA holder. KAUST might offer a salary in that range, but not KSU. |

Yes, KAUST is offering salaries that high with an MA and significant years of experience (20+?).

Dear VS, Cleo, John, and Mia,
Thanks for keeping it real on this thread. I know I am also guilty of wandering into the desert for forty years but once in a while we shine. We provide good, short, to the point answers the OPs are looking for.
And now I'm going off topic........
Regards.

Bell/Obeikan KSU are offering between 9000 and 12000 SAR per year for CELTA qualified teachers with over 2 years experience of TESOL.
I've agreed to come over for this semester but judging by the panning they seem to be getting on here may reconsider, i've not signed a contract yet.
What are most teachers in KSA on (I hear KSU pays quite well to make up for being treated like a child)? |

Bell may be there for now but there are other contractors that have taken the KSU gig. ICEEL and Ed Ex have interests there too. Bell may be losing its grip there and possibly other contractors (the ones I've mentioned and others) will take over or Bell will have a diminished roll there. If they (Bell) don't pull up their socks and stick up for their teachers rights then they will be history there. Obeicon (Obi Wan) have a bad track record also but they will have to bend a little and let the hiring contractors that they work with have some autonomy.
Think of a ship and Obeicon as the captain. Bell is the second captain. I forget what that's called in mariner terms. If you always treat your second captain like the don't exist then there could be a mutiny one day. Constantly replacing the second captain would also raise red flags about the captain.
tout finis

Why?
Since when has not standing up for teachers ever hurt an employer in KSA, much less caused them to lose their contract? |

I have spent a lot of time looking at salaries in the KSA and have never seen 30,000! That must be a typo. |
