do we need copies of airline tickets to get the z visa? I was looking at a courier service and it said it was requred to get the visa. I live far from a consulate and it will be easier - time and money involved to use a courier - and I still don't have my documents from the university. Just trying to get it all organized. I obviously don't feel comfortable buying a ticket and paying my various fees for baggage and such - until I know if the date will be correct on the visa for me fly over. Not to mention giving notice on my apartment and getting rid of the last few things in it.

No.

If you deal with Travel Document Systems, the copies of the tickets are for same-day turnaround on the visa. I called and I was told that the only conditions under which it would do next-day processing was if i supplied copies of tickets or a confirmed itinerary that indicated that i would be leaving within seven days.

Call the courier service for clarification.

No. Get the visa first. Even if you want same day service you don't need to show airline tickets. Why would you? What if the visa is refused? What if you are planning to visit multiple countries and have no fixed schedule? So many reasons why the courier service are talking through their collective arses.

It isn't the consulate that is requiring the confirmed itinerary or the tickets. It's the courier service(s). It's for same-day turnaround only.

I suppose they must have their reasons but I don't see why they should want to see your tickets if the consulate doesn't. You are paying extra for a quick service but that's obviously not enough for them. Weird.

The explanation that I got from the courier service that I used is that same-day service requires two trips to the various embassies/consulates per day if the visa can't be processed on-the-spot. In Washington DC, there are many embassies to which they must send travel documents (not just China's). It has become impractical for both the courier service and the embassies to provide same-day service due to the numbers of requests.

The courier service that I use is happy to provide same-day service if it is actually necessary. It determines necessity by the client's ability to produce copies of tickets or confirmed e-ticket itineraries.

My courier service's service description actually says that copies of tickets are necessary, but it does not specify that it's necessary for only same-day service. I had to call the company for clarification.
