You mean that they don't have a Kindle version? Cool

Yes. I mean no. They do not have this in Kindle. Amazon has a Kindle tag so that you can "voice" your desire to the publisher, but that seems to be as far as it goes. I don't suppose you have a copy? And a camera? Wink

So, after having the phone interview last week with Leonard, M. from the States was later to call me. We set up two different dates and times for phone calls. On both occasions, with little or no notice, s/he later emailed to apologise that s/he couldn't make it after all.

S/he then didn't call for the THIRD arranged appointment and I haven't even (a day later) had the courtesy of an apology for this one.

I'm not such a brave/foolhardy PierogiMonster and have, personally, no intention of jumping off any ledges, metaphorically or otherwise. However, my curiosity at least being picqued by this ever-growing thread here, I thought I'd at least take the call. But no longer.

In short, stuff the lot of 'em!

(I know: sentences slightly convoluted. I think I'm enjoying my last few weeks of liquid freedom).

Curiosity killed the cat. Satisfaction brought it back. Laughing

Was that a reference to a certain black cat?

But to answer your question, no I don't have a copy, and yes I have a camera. (a camera? page by page photo? easier to use a copy machine I'd think... Cool)

Hey PierogiMonster...

Do take the call... and report back to us. Ask them how they are enjoying this thread so far?

kbp4g5: Where did you find a better option? I spoke with American Higher Ed and was told I'd get an offer via e-mail within 24 hours. I put in 2 years at an IH school in Europe, have taught 18 months of EFL in the U.S., and have a Spanish K-12 teaching certificate in my home state. I am eager to teach somewhere new this fall- I was hoping for the Middle East but am now widening my scope to Asia- but I don't want to settle for something lower-paying than I "deserve" or something that is not a good situation. To kbp4g5 and all others with experience/info/insight, please feel free to send a PM (or just reply) helping me out. If there is a place that is reputable, pays on time/well, has good conditions (not "too many" hours, a nice setup), I would be grateful to hear about it.

Thanks in advance.

Heavens no. Cats have a "ruff, ruff" enough time as it is, and I wouldn't dream of singling any out by their color for further (superstitious) abuse. Actually, a little bit of Thomas Gray might be appropriate here:

Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat

I.
'TWAS on a lofty vase's side,
Where China's gayest art had dy'd
The azure flowers that blow;
Demurest of the tabby kind,
The pensive Selima reclin'd,
Gaz'd on the lake below.
II.
Her conscious tail her joy declar'd;
The fair round face, the snowy beard,
The velvet of her paws,
Her coat, that with the tortoise vies,
Her ears of jet, and emerald eyes,
She saw, and purr'd applause.
III.
Still had she gaz'd; but midst the tide
Two beauteous forms were seen to glide,
The Genii of the stream;
Their scaly armour's Tyrian hue,
Through richest purple, to the view,
Betray'd a golden gleam.
IV.
The hapless Nymph with wonder saw:
A whisker first, and then a claw,
With many an ardent wish,
She stretch'd, in vain, to reach the prize.
What female heart can gold despise?
What cat's averse to fish?
V.
Presumptuous Maid! with looks intent
Again she stretch'd, again she bent,
Nor knew the gulph between;
(Malignant Fate sat by, and smil'd.)
The slippery verge her feet beguil'd;
She tumbled headlong in.
VI.
Eight times emerging from the flood,
She mew'd to every watery God,
Some speedy aid to send.
No Dolphin came, no Nereid stir'd:
Nor cruel Tom, nor Susan heard.
A favourite has no friend.
VII.
From hence, ye beauties, undeceiv'd,
Know, one false step is ne'er retriev'd,
And be with caution bold.
Not all that tempts your wandering eyes
And heedless hearts, is lawful prize;
Nor all, that glisters, gold.

Speaking of which, I'm thinking bfaris96 may have been "one of them." In a moment of weakness I PM-ed him a note of consolation and encouragement, and he never returned my call. Yeah...yeah, he was definitely one of them.Evil or Very Mad If not, then beware bfaris96! "All that glitters is not gold!" (Tolkien's borrowing of Gray.)

My pleasure.

For more than 33,000 free e-books (but non-pdf ), and over 100,000 such through their "partners, affiliates and resources," there's always The Gutenberg Project:

http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

And they're asking for volunteer readers to help build their audio-book selection.

Finally got my second call from AH...(what ever)

I made some headway. They want me in Al-Hasa. Yup 6 hours contact per day. Hotel room for a place to rest your whitebord markers. And last but not least salary negotiations.

If they want me they'll have to cough-up.

Apparently they are now willing to provide housing rather than let you look for one and get ambushed by some guy wearing 5 kilos of plastique.

Shared Housing ? I hear that is part of the deal with military contracts in Iraq, but they pay US$150,000 a year. (=$3,000 a week all found) For that kind of money I might accept sharing Living Quarters with another EFLer. Not for less.

A disgruntled fellow oldrimer in this game asked me to post this

TO WHOM IT MAY, POSSIBLY, CONCERN

AHEd turned me down when I asked - like Oliver Twist in the workhouse - for
a modest 13k SR / mo. - no deal THERE!

DISCLOSURE
I used to work for the GOVTEVT college in Hofuf 1993-95
[a fact which was in my CV]

1 ... Salary THEN was 9+k plus a month ... the offered salary NOW for TVTC
is far far less in purchasing power terms

2 ... Dr M (MOD edit), the then Dean of the GOVTEVT College in Hofuf , insisted NOBODY teach more than 4 classes a day except on very rare occasions - the deal on offer now is 6 classroom hours a day, 5 days a week, teaching tekkie college dullards.

3 ... WE THEN HAD
Immense apartments UNSHARED [except as a VERY temporary arrangement]

4 ... long hols with TOTALLY FREE spousal air tickets on Saudia everywhere that SAUDI then flew [a good menu actually] - in practice 1 long break in the summer and 1 short break to, for example, Sri Lanka for 8 days

So here 17 years later and the deal on offer is ACTUALLY FAR WORSE IN EVERY WAY than it was in 1993!

The only time I've wanted to slap my daughter in recent years was when she said she was thinking of doing an EFL qualification [CELTA or DELTA or whatever...]

I'd prefer she got a diploma in crack house management, pit bull breeding or money laundering!

Not all of us can make $3,000 per week. They're offering 1/4 of that at American Higher Ed.
