Hi all,

was wondering if anyone here at any hotel suggestions for Quito, some place that would also not be too much trouble to get the proof of address that the 12 IX visa registration and censo process requires? If anyone here has had recent experience, that would be helpful.

thanks

We stayed at the Hotel Eugenia, they weren't entirely forthcoming with the letter for the Censo, but we got there in the end. Bear in mind that you need a confirmed booking before you apply for the 12-1X as the consulate puts the address on your visa letter. Also you will need to stay at that address until you have registered the visa and got your Censo, even if that takes longer than you expect.

If I understand correctly the address has to be in the city where you are going to register the visa and get the censo? Or, could it be the address of the school where you are taking the CELTA course? If so, that could make things easier, if the school would be willing to provide the letter.

It may depend on the embassy in your home country, things seem to differ slightly depending on where you apply.

For the UK, when we applied for the visa we had to give a name and address where we would be staying when we first arrived in Ecuador. The consulate then gave us the visa and a visa registration letter. The registration letters had the address of our hotel on. When we arrived we had to take our passports (with the visas in) and the registration letters to the migration office, with a letter from the hotel confirming that we were staying there, and that it was the same address as on the registration letters.

I can't promise this, but a lot of my friends have lived in the Volunteer House, which seems equipped to help foreigners (not just volunteers.) I got a regular apartment and my landlord wrote me a note. It wasn't the same address that I'd put on my visa application (that was a host family's house, but they were crazy and I moved out quickly) but no one seemed to give it a second glance.
