Thank you for offering nothing but convulusion and the snot of which you so quickly and unabashedly accuse me. I'm not being a hater, I would just like to hear some positivities - instead of the speculation and derision which seem to trump anything constructive in this thread. PLEASE don't bother responding to my post with personal criticism - my intention was not to pick on anyone or sound harsh, but rather to be constructively direct. Come on kids, we can go round all day debating whose outlook on this and that is really correct, or whose the most naive traveller/ teacher on the board, etc... grow up. I'm asking if there is anyone WITH ME in this endeavor. Let's keep it real.

Pointful skeptics like John - touche. Right on, keep it coming.

Is that you bfaris96? Cool You can't fool me with those sunglasses. And why didn't you answer my PM?

Dear ktb,

Assuming you're serious (always dangerous,) bliebing3 doesn't have enough posts to PM (5 are needed.)

johnslat,

Are you really gonna make me try to explain myself? Jeez...I feel like the new guy on the job site and am being sent to fetch some (non-existent) "sky hooks."

Of course bliebing3 doesn't have enough posts to PM, because it isn't bliebing3--it's bfaris96, from earlier in the thread. And bfaris96, who works for AHEd, was trying to quell questions about AHEd's legitimacy, etc., especially for the sake of the new AHEd recruits who were posting here or who will be popping in. But before I had surmised that bfaris96 might have been an AHEd "plant," I had PMed him in a moment of pity. It was a very thoughtful PM, full of empathy and encouragement, and he never wrote me back. But now he's returned, in the guise of bliebing3, and I'm just sayin' "What's up wit dat, bfaris96? I thought we had sumthin."

Dear ktb,

And where's the left-handed monkey wrench I wanted?

Sorry I didn't get it, but - I actually managed to follow that convoluted explanation/

"I had PMed him in a moment of pity."

"The four destructive emotions that lead to blockages are fear, anger, pity, and jealousy."

Essene School of Thought

http://www.curezone.com/blogs/fm.asp?i=969717

Now, compassion, well, that's a different story.

John

Dear johnslat,

"Convoluted?" My goal is conciseness and accuracy, my Bible The Elements of Style. Sir, I challenge you to a duel. Laughing (I would challenge bliebing ne bfaris, but I'm afraid that I might have qualms later about shooting an unarmed man.)

Re: pity, well, then it's fortunate for me that such doesn't actually exist, as per the link you so thoughtfully provided:

"There is no such thing as anger. There is no such thing as Pity, and there is no such thing as jealousy. All these things are blockages. There is no duality. There is only one energy and that energy is love. Love means harmony. Harmony is the desire for balance. Balance begets peace."

And as empathy was my guide, and encouragement my aim, perhaps you will credit me with compassion after all? A compassionate person would. Very Happy I appeal to your higher self. (And I certainly don't want to be "blocked." Sounds painful. "The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed." May I have it? If not, then at least "pity [this] poor fool.") Smile

As for there being "only one energy, and that energy is love," I don't have to subscribe to such because I've experienced it. Unfortunately, the experience has left me in the lurch, somewhere between seriousness and frivolity, but as "there is no duality" maybe I don't have to choose one over the other. I'm still trying to figure out the part that language has to play in harmony and peace, for example, but I'm certain that, for myself at least, play is the operative word. As for balance, I'm wobbly all over. ("Weebles wobble but they don't fall down.") I really just want what everybody wants, to be "someone not to be trifled with," and more importantly, to be someone to be trifled with. Maybe that's why I'm so drawn to this forum. (That, or I'm in denial about some serious masochistic tendencies.)

You are in the Nile chasing some serious masochistic tendencies? Wow. Isn't that supposed to be done in the Ganges River?

Everyone grumbled. The sky was grey.
We had nothing to do and nothing to say.
We were nearing the end of a dismal day,
And then there seemed to be nothing beyond,
Then
Daddy fell into the pond!

...

Then the gardener suddenly slapped his knee,
And doubled up, shaking silently,
And the ducks all quacked as if they were daft,
And it sounded as if the old drake laughed.
Oh, there wasn't a thing that didn't respond
When
Daddy Fell into the pond!

Hello All,

I am just wondering if there are any teachers who have signed a contract with American Higher Ed yet and received their visa?

Did you sign for the 20 hour teaching contract with 10 hours additional or the 30 hour teaching contract with 10 additional hours?

I declined this offer but would look forward to updates from people who have accepted these positions, particularly after their arrival. Some comments about how the placement process was negotiated would be appreciated because I requested Jeddah but was never 'placed' and in the contract it said it would be anywhere and could change at any time.

The working hours mentioned in the contract concerned me too -- anytime from 7:00 AM to midnight. The teaching hours could fall anywhere during that time. 40 hours of teaching, tutoring, and anything else they ask you to do would be necessary. None of the language stipulates all of those hours wouldn't be teaching.

I am very interested to hear how it turns out, however, from the people who do end up going, and I doubt they need any more discouragement.

They may well not want discouragement, but the fact remains that given the terms of the contract, it would not be realistic to offer encouragement.

Why not? If you can successfully discourage them from going, you are doing them a big favor, not to mention ourselves. People taking these horrible positions drag things down for all of us.

I knew it was trouble when the recruiter began telling about how they were going to arrange for sightseeing trips for teachers! Rolling Eyes And then she told me about the shared housing! Exclamation
