I hope ALTIA is maintaining... I was hoping to consider later on. I am tempted to look in to Joytalk.

Do NOT work for JALSS! I sent them my CV, indicating I wanted to apply for one of their direct hire jobs (A lie, as only Board of Educations (BOEs) or the school itself in some rare cases advertise direct hire work). This is the response I got:

"Sorry you cannot apply.
For the following reasons.
Not a native speaker.
No JET experience.
CELTA only pass. Not enough

You can apply for a regular alt position."

Now, I have no trouble with the 2nd & 3rd reasons. However, the first one is quite simply racist. Bear in mind, this email was sent without interviewing me, or testing my English ability in any way. After I sent a response to this email, a person by the name of Morishita responded in kind stating they had written that line because my name was "not a native English background name". Whatever that means.

There are some good ALT dispatch agencies in Japan. JALSS is obviously not one of them.

Altia Central will be in court again next month. They have been employing the services of a lawyer for over a year now. The fee for that won't be cheap...mixed with the company being forced to enroll staff into the shakai-hoken system perhaps a reason for their need to make cuts...(?) If you can read kanji more about this case can be viewed on the Tokyo General Union site.

Good luck with the lawsuit.

Have you discovered whether Altia Central has since obtained a licence to legally dispatch ALTs yet?
