My teaching contract in Abu Dhabi will end at the end of June. I will be moving to Oman in August. I will be flying back to the U.S. to live while waiting to fly to Oman. I need some advice on what to do with my belongings that I will not be able to bring with me to the U.S. Is it cheaper to find a storage facility in Abu Dhabi (if they exist) and keep my belongings there until I can return to the U.A.E. (probably one month after arriving in Oman), or would it be better to ship it to the U.S. and then just have my belongings sent to Oman when I learn my address? Any info such as names of storage companies or the cheapest way to send things back to the U.S. will be very helpful. The items are a PS2 and some clothes. Probably about 4 to 5 medium sized boxes. Thanks again.[/b][/u]

I don't know A.D. very well, so I can't give you any names, but I'll bet there is an area somewhere downtown where you'll find eight or ten airfreight agencies all in a row... Find one that ships to Oman, buddy up to the agent, and ask him to hold onto your stuff until such and such a date. Shouldn't be any big deal.

Mr Menace,

I did it in the opposite direction using Circle Freight. They picked up my stuff - that I had packed up myself - and stored it for me. When I arrived at the next place I gave their local agent a call - the stuff was put on a truck (boxes and a washing machine) - and I had it in a couple days. AND, you don't have to go to the airport and hassle with the customs people - the shipping company took care of it. It wasn't that expensive either.

They are a dependable company if they are still doing personal freight work. If not, check around with other teachers. People go back and forth all the time.

VS
(the only problem is things that can't tolerate too much heat - you might want to take that on the plane with you. If it goes by truck or by plane, it will spend lots of time in the hot sun most likely)

Do you have access to a telephone directory?
Try looking in the yellow pages, cargo/shipping/freight section and ringing up. This will give you far more reliable info than the distant memories of someone who did something similar between Alaska and Korea several blue moons ago...

Not sure what Tefllifer is talking about. Who here said anything about Alaska and Korea? Are you reading other messages and getting confused?

He was referred to local shipping companies in common around the Gulf that some of us have used. I actually moved from Muscat to Abu Dhabi, but I expect the experience would be similar if one was moving the other way.

Or were you suggesting that the original poster didn't have the intelligence to understand the previous answers.
