Hi, this is a question for those who have lived and worked in Japan and Korea. I was wondering if anyone can tell me the the difference in working conditions and hours between Korea and Japan. I am a dancer and was wondering if I'm being foolish to think that I can get some time for myself to practice when teaching in Japan. I've heard that the schools really take advantage of teachers and working hours are so demanding that people rarely have time for themselves, compared with Korea where it is less demanding, is this true? |

This was not my experience while working in English conversation schools. I worked 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and only did overtime if I wanted to. I have never heard anyone complain about having to do very long hours in either eikaiwa or as an ALT. Where did you hear about people not having any time for themselves? |

Please read the stickies, rules and do a search before posting. If you had merely glanced at the thread list, you would have seen that at pretty much the top there is already a sticky thread for just such questions if they have not already been answered there:

I work at an eikaiwa, I get 8 days off a month, and that's it. No Golden week or any national holiday. I also work 9hrs a day, with anything from 5hrs of teaching to 8hrs, with the rule being 8hrs, and the exp being 5hrs. I usually leave for work around 8:30 and get home around 8pm. So yeah I don't have much time for myself. Esp when I have the 6dya work week |
