Dear veiledsentiments,

Well, that depends on just how big that room's going to be. Very Happy

Not much prog, really, but this might amuse you ...

After Mr/Mrs M******s breaking several telephone appointments, Mr L.H. called (again) to see if I was still interested. I said yes (just for the hell of it, really) and he asked me what my thoughts about salary were. I said I'd need more than the original offer considering the 30 contact hours.

When I told him about Mr/s M's 'unprofessional behaviour', he said s/he'd call me very quickly. However, considering my remarks I'm not surprised two weeks later that I didn't get the call. Seems I played it a bit strong, but in this case I don't mind at all.

Was it on this thread that someone mentioned a certain kind of employer who can't handle job applicants who know what they're worth and aren't afraid to say so?

That's funny because Mr. L.H. told me they have no positions for women this year. I can understand Mr. M@**@**s unprofessional behavior but how does Mrs. M****** fit in?

Did she start cussing when they told her there was no position for her or did she go overboard when she heard the compensation package?

I agree it is better to revive this older thread. I understood teachers were to begin arriving in KSA on September 21st, but I believe that date was pushed back. As there have been no posts on this subject in some time. I wonder if any of these new AHEd teachers have arrived and if so, what is their experience?

I applied with them just to check out what they were offering and they are horrible in getting back to you. I feel they are a scam or very shady because they never contact you back timely, they always have excuses for not contacting timely, and they seem desperate for teachers.

My gut says watch out.

Seeming desperate for teachers doesn't qualify as a criteria for scam companies. I'm desperate for teachers (opening language centre in Turkey soon) and I don't think I'm a scam company. If you look at some other establishments like HAK, BOOZ/ALLEN, and KFUPM, just to name a few, they are still desperatly advertising through their respective agencies also. Are they or their agencies scams?

I had my interview with them about 5 weeks ago and decided from their conversation alone that I wasn't going to work with them. As for scam I personally wouldn't go as far as saying that about them. A shade dodgy perhaps. They wouldn't supply information on some essentials of mine claiming ignorance but then that doesn't qualify them as scammers. Yet!

The funny thing is; they never returned back to me. Just one email about two weeks ago saying the position they were thinking about for me has been terminated.

I felt something lıke.... You can't fire me because I quit. OR I'm firing you before you can quit on me.

Cat, you are running a Language Centre in Istanbul and teaching in KSA at the same time ?

This is either devious or just plain irrational.

No I just have plans for the future. This is not going to happen until I get lots and lots of Rıyals after working many eons in the Kıngdom.

Saw their announcement on Dave's and with their emphasis on "significantly higher than normal EFL expat packages," I threw my CV out for sh*ts and giggles.

Communication between all players went well. I had numerous conversations/interviews with all the players and received numerous offers. Ultimately, I called bullsh*t on the "higher than average" crap. The work load, the shared housing, and the cash were NOT better than average or average...it was WORSE than AVERAGE! About the only way I would consider the appointment was to be stationed in the EP, a housing allowance, and keeping my passport so I could do the daily bridge commute; no dice on their end so no go on mine.

I think I'm going to pass on this one as well. They offered me a salary higher than the $3000 but couldn't/wouldn't tell me the location where I would work. Also shared housing, it speaks for itself. They wouldn't send me my "business visitor" visa to the consulate here. The guy wanted me to fedex them my passport. Definitely dodgy!

My experience with AHEd sounds quite similar to ComradeBL's. The money they offered was way, way low. Plus, they were asking for up to 6 hours a day teaching at the remedial level. No thanks. I'd be very curious to hear from people who are working for them.

What's the word on this company? Have the classes started yet? What is the housing situation like? Are you living in some private quarters? Are you getting paid? Are you in Saudi? Teachers... what's going on with American Higher Education?
