You cannot have two CoE applications out at the same time, or so I have been told.

An example of what you can do, let ECC apply for you if they already have, then if they say they already hired too many or lost students, you still have your CoE with them, you then request the CoE to be sent to you anyways, because you have another job offer. Then you tell Aeon that you have a CoE from another company and you can just do paperwork switching it from ECC to Aeon in Japan after you have arrived.

I'm pretty sure that is how it works... someone can correct me if things have changed since I did it a long time ago.

They won't start processing anything until you have accepted a specific position. I know that AEON will send out their forms as soon as you accept.

I think ECC just want your information on hand so they can begin processing as soon as you accept.

So it's perfectly safe to leave both of them until you get a specific offer and you can decide whether you want to accept or not.

Did you request a particular location?

Neither one will probably tell you a time frame or specific location until 1-2 weeks before you leave. Accept one or the other and give them the needed info for COE/visa. You cannot apply for both.

Thanks for the insight guys. No, I didn't really have any specific placement in mind, and told both companies I was flexible in regards to placement.

I figure I will leave things as they are until one company sends me a specific location/offer- and then I will have to pick a company.

My only question is- since it doesn't t seem like I can have two companies applying for a CoE for me at the same time, and ECC already has my CoE info- I guess if Aeon asks for my CoE documentation within the next few weeks, I will have to pick one of them and stick with them.

Is that assumption correct?

Like I said, AEON won't ask you for COE information until they've given you a specific placement and you've accepted. They're not going to process it until you've signed a contract with them. I have no doubt ECC is the same.

Thanks womblingfree Cool
This forum has helped a lot, at least providing an honest perspective on what the job market is like in Japan at the moment. It appears I was lucky to get offered a job so quickly!

NoExit, good luck with your placement with either company and congratulations on your offers Smile Let us know how it goes.

Thanks LaniB Smile Congrats with your offer from Aeon as well! That's very exciting! Do you know where you may be placed/general date of departure yet?

Yeah, it's a tough decision...as I think they are both very reputable and good companies to start out with. Luckily, it looks like I will have quite a bit of time to think it over, haha Razz

You might be surprised how quickly they get back to you! AEON really tries to place you according to your preferences so if you are very flexible you'll be heading over much quicker. When I had my interview ECC wasn't hiring but they would have been my first choice - I've only ever heard good things about them. AEON is a close second though and my friend is in Japan working for them, she absolutely loves it.

I'm heading to Tokyo for training in January and then off to work/ cope with the cold in Sapporo!!
