I am planning on doing a Master's Degree in Tefl.
My plan is to work in the Middle East. Which of these would be the best to pursue? MA ELT, MA Tesol/tefl or the Delta?
I have 7 years teaching experience in Asia in all age ranges. However, as I only have a degree in History after all this time I know that I really need to get some post grad qualification in teaching English/linguistics to further my career and make a life of it.
I am Irish.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance with my query and if anyone knows of any good courses to study to get into a Middle Eastern university or into the higher echhelons of esl teaching, feel free to post.
Thanx in Advance.
Aridion. |

If your goal is to teach in the Middle East, definite do the MA. You never see ads asking for the DELTA. Universities want a related MA.

Thanx for all the useful info.
I was looking at the MA ELT from the University of Limerick in Ireland.
It is the same as an MA in Tesol according to the university.
Does the name of the MA matter? Or is 'MA Tesol' better than 'MA ELT'. |

don't think it sounds quite right
as pick has only one syllable while limerick has three. |

how about this one? I got my ba degree from Trinity College Dublin.
There once was a student from Trinity,
Tried to take the square root of infinity.
Whilst counting the digits
Was seized with the fidgets.
Gave up math and took up divinity. |

How nice to have a poster who doesn't get upset when his thread gets hijacked by silliness.
The answer to your question is that the name isn't what matters, as long as it is a degree in teaching English as a Foreign Language. What doesn't work as well is... theoretical linguistics... or Literature... or Creative Writing.

Actually, I thought that this said it all...
Now can we get back to our limerick-building initiative...hmmm?
NCTBA (P.s.- I agree, the OP is being very magnanimous in letting me live out my truncated childhood.) Acually, I'd start my own limerick thread, but, alas, there is no Limerick Board... |

Thank you for the advice.
I might just pursue that MA ELT.
There once was a man who studied ELT,
he was as happy as happy could be,
until he failed grammar,
developed a stammer,
and realised the course wasn't free. |
