Hi all.
US citizen, permanent residency, Level 1 in JLPT, BA but no master's
Family matters require me to move fairly urgently to Kyushu and although I have lived there a long time, I really don't know how to go about looking for a position (I tried searching this site w/out much luck).
Although I have a lot of experience, it looks like an alt position would be my best choice to start off with. However, it seems the internet is just filled with spam and outdated, non-existent jobs. Can anyone direct me to the reliable agencies and forums in my job search? Pretty much anywhere in Kyushu is OK as it's a fairly small island with a good highway bus system and a new shinkansen line.

Try ohayosensei, I saw a few Kyushu listings (specifically Kagoshima) last time I was applying. A school I remember specifically is G-wiz English, but I can't help you beyond giving a name, I never worked with them.

Kyushu is not that small a place. Have you pinned down a city?

I'm interested in Fukuoka, which is pretty much three hours at the most from the furthest big cities in Kyushu by highway bus. I don't have to live in Fukuoka though, just need to be a lot closer to it that I am now. So, wherever the work is that's in or near a major city (Fukuoka, Kokura, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, even Oita City) will work fine.

Not much gets widely advertised online from Kyushu. There is an information center in Fukuoka, I believe, that many/most people rely on, but obviously you have to be there to take advantage of it.

That would be Rainbow Plaza, located on the 8th floor in the IMS building in Tenjin, Fukuoka City. Not a great source these days. Online is Pukuoka Now, which is better during peak seasons anyway (http://www.fukuoka-now.com/).
I know the three big recruiters for Fukuoka-ken and I guess it would be best to apply directly to them. But I wonder where schools in Kagoshima for example are getting their teachers? Surely I would think there are decent paying jobs out in the sticks since gaijin generally don't want to live out there.

Can't help with a job there, but I actually enjoyed Saga city (which is a place you never hear about) when I did a short term gig there years ago. Small enough to be peaceful, clean, spacious, and cheap-- big enough to have everything you need. 19 min or something to Hakata by limited express train, I think.

It's not the answer you're looking for, but with PR, if you could afford it, I think you'd be a lot better off just going there and sniffing things out.

Whatever you do, stay away from OWLS and KBS as they are both corrupt as they come.
