Is there one that is prefered over the other in Asia? I heard somewhere that more asian countries now tend to prefer the TESOL due to the phonetics component rather than the CELTA, is this true?

Also to get the best jobs in countries such as Japan, Hong kong e.t.c i'm assuming that either a CELTA or TESOL would be favourable when applying to the "better" jobs?

I currently hold a BA in Business and a Masters In Human Resource management, however hardly any experience at teaching. I am a 22 year old british Male for the record, so english is my native language.

Thanks for any advice on the issues posed above.

Most of ASIA won't care about the flavor (brand name) of your TESOL cert (CELTA or other).

With your BA get you can get a work visa in ALL countries in Asia and a Native English Speaking Teacher.

Thanks for your response. How about in countries such as Japan though, where it is really competitive for positions - wouldn't one be useful in this instance or would it not really matter?
Obviously for the practical experience as well though, i'm assuming it would be worth the investment in either a TESOL or CELTA.

Hurrimark, look carefully at ttt's terminology here:

As you can see, it is not a matter of CELTA vs. TESOL-- ttt is saying that the CELTA is one brand of a TESOL cert; there are many TESOL certs: Trinity TESOL, SIT TESOL, to name the next two most widely recognized. CELTA is simply the most recognized brand name. "Should I get a CELTA or a TESOL?" is like asking should you buy a Chevy or a car. (Well. . . not quite, but you get the idea!) Very Happy

"Which TESOL (or TEFL) cert should I get?" is a question that includes the CELTA as one of the possibilities. And you will find dozens of threads which discuss this very topic. Wink If part of your question is asking whether you should even get a cert, whether CELTA or another TEFL/TESOL course, then, yes, you should. (120 hour minumum, 6 hours of TP, as you will read here repeatedly!)

You have to be joking. "Best jobs" with your qualifications? Nope. Far from it.
