Can anyone recommend a cheap, clean hotel near to Cultural and Education Section of the British Consulate-General 英国总领事馆文化教育处
7th Floor | Teem Tower | 208 Tianhe Road | Guangzhou | 510620 | China ?
I have asked the administrator for the course who sends me two hotels at RMB 640+ for a single room! - if I had money like that I wouldn't need a second job.
She advises, otherwise, looking on the internet but that is extremely time- consuming when one is not familiar with the city. Would be grateful for any info or recommendation. For example, is there a youth hostel in reasonable distance? Last one I stayed in in Shanghai was excellent, with ensuite and good sized room for around 150 RMB a night.
Any other general info would also be welcome. I will be coming from the airport and would like to avoid taxi fare, which I understand to be very high to the consulate area.
Thanks. |

I usually stay at the Riverside YHA near Shamian Island (it'll be in the YHA list on their website). Easy to get to and I usually stay in a single room with ensuite for about 160Y a night. They have breakfast available for about 15Y/ pp. About a 10 min walk to the subway so pretty convenient, and on the bar street next to the river.
As for the airport, if you were going to stay here, you can get bus number 6a from there to Citic Plaza just doing the road from the Guangzhou East Rail Station, where you can easily hook up with the metro (walk outside the terminal and turn left, will have different buses and in English where they are going to). There is also a bus going to Fangcun bus station, which is actually quite close to the hostel (just a metro stop or two away). I can't remember the number, I think it's 4? 5?, anyway, like I said it will say Fangcun (Fung-chun) in English on the board.
Good luck, wish I was doing the training too! |

I stayed at a 7 Days Inn, 10 minute taxi ride for the BC offices, when I did my training. You can walk it to - about 30 minutes (but do you want you nice clothing getting al lsweaty?)
The room was about 380/night, but that was during the Canton Fair, should be cheaper when you go down.

If they say they can't take in foreigners tell them they CAN, and they HAVE, and there isn't an issue with it. |

Thanks for that info. In fact I have booked with the Chengdu Business Hotel which seems to be in the vicinity and the price is 420 RMB for two nights, which is excellent. We'll see what the place is like.
Is anyone else doing the training who would like to get together on Thursday 23rd afternoon/evening? Or anyone have good ideas as to a decent bar where a single female who is not in her twenties will not look out of place? |

There is a fairly cheap hostel type room down on the old French/British Concession Island in Guangzhou that I stayed in a few years ago. Nice enough and fairly quiet. I can't remember the name of it, but it was listed in my Lonely Planet Guide.
Now if I had just kept that little dickens. A teacher at my school has one, I'll borrow hers and take a peak and post the information if I can find the place.
Good luck with Ielts training. I love getting new training as it energizes me in my classes for some weird reason. |

Lucky I checked that Chen Du hotel again as I have inadvertently booked into the wrong one - it is miles away from the Teem Tower. So have spent many hours trying again to find somewhere closer which didn't cost an arm and a leg and finally booked at the Grand China Hotel, which is apparently near to TiyuXi metro. Can anyone tell me how to get there by public transport from the airport? I can't seem to get a straight answer which I can understand from the search engine.
Thanks. |
