Can anyone tell me what is the best package at the moment for USB Internet, which can be stopped and started i.e. used for a few weeks and then let expire until needed again - not monthly contract.
Thanks for help.

Looks like I am replying to myself but anyway for others to be warned.
I chose Etisalat modem and was very unhappy for a number of reasons:

1. I paid 99LE for the USB even though I already had an unlocked one. I paid a further 150 LE for one month's service i.e 6GB. It was reasonably easy to set up but stopped working after about 10 days.

2. I called into a local Etisalat office and explained my problem. He checked and said I had used all my allowance. I had not changed my package from a daily limit to a monthly one and so had been charged per mb!! He explained that the default setting was daily and you had to send a message and change it, something not explained where I bought the package. He suggested I go back to the original store and they would help.

3. I went back to the original store and met a 'it's your problem, you did not change the package, ring customer service'.
I had to ring customer service from my mobile and stayed on the line at my expense for 20 minutes. The service lady was like someone from another planet who kept saying 'pay 150 LE again and I change your package'. I tried to explain I wanted their error addressed. Finally, she took my number and said I would be contacted. That was 6 weeks ago and I am still waiting for the call!

4. I emailed my complaint two weeks later about this and a technical issue and am still waiting for a reply!

5. I had no option but to pay another 150LE. That's when the quality of the service changed dramatically. In Alexandria, the service kept 'hanging' every 10 minutes and had to be reconnected to either upload or download. In Cairo, the service dropped to Edge technology and was useless. I finally gave up when this 150LE expired and used dial up for the last few days in Egypt.

AVOID ETISALAT and spread the word.
A much better option for me would have been dsl modem for 260 LE and 90LE a month from TEData. My friend have this and are very happy. It takes a bit of time to get installed but worth it.
