Mexico celebrates 200 years of independence this year and there are numerous events schedule for what should be one hell of a party.
What's going on where you are?
I'm still debating on whether to go to the Mexico City Zocalo or not for festivities. It's wild every year but this one might be too much, and I think it would be too much for the 15 month old daughter.
Events start this Sunday at the angel of independence. |
It's not on Independence day but tomorrow I believe, at the Tec de Monterrey Cuernavaca campus they're having a "charro" event... I went to those during my time in Mexico. It's open to the public. Sorry for the late notice
Looking forward to getting back. |

Put my earplugs in and shut myself indoors for a week! Sorry, but that's what you expected me to say, isn't it! Madrid was beautiful last week, and even Warsaw. |

Same here. Early Wednesday I'll go to the store and stock up on some food. Enough for three days at least. |

I'm getting out of Dodge. As much as I love many aspects of living in Mexico City, being here on the 15th and 16th is not one of them. We're heading to a small town in Zacatecas, where it's festive, but laid back. |

I made it down to Reforma to see the afternoon parade but the little one couldn't go more than 2 hours with so much merry-making. Caught the fireworks from my roof though - the whole city was lit up! Very nice. |

The parade was marvelous, and in spite of my eventually aching feet and back, I stayed for the whole two hours it took to see it from beginning to end. Then I limped back home, stopping to get a tamal oaxqueo from a street vendor for a very late supper. A little after 11 pm, after the Grito took place, I went up on the roof of my building and watched a spectacular fireworks display, all in red, green and white, of course.

Looks like some parts of Mexico got walloped with rain from Karl. I hope the weather there is at least better today for other activities. Karl is going to smack us again though later. |
