"KG1 and KG2 classes will be taught by two teachers working collaboratively, one native English speaker and one native Arabic speaker.

Grades 1, 2 and 3 pupils will have native English speakers teaching English, maths and science-related subjects, while a native Arabic speaker will instruct them in Arabic, Islamic studies, social studies, music and other subjects."

So they have now rolled out the KG-programme as well.

As I recall, last year they were hiring Kindergarten teachers, so I think it started last year. Maybe this year it manages to go system wide.

We had a few posters here (and on the Facebook Teachaway site) who had been offered K level jobs... and K was mentioned in the Teachaway ads. So... perhaps they were working out some of the kinks in the process last year and now they will expand it.

What I've read from teachers last year, they were the first year of the 10-year initiative. It wasn't just kindergarten teachers, though; high school (grade 12) and other early elementary teachers started last year as well. My understanding is that 2010-11 is year two.

Mimi you're right. There were a few K teachers last year, but many more this year. Many more LTs (licensed teachers as we are known) in general, in grade 10-12 as well as k-3. Though a few LTs last year also had 4 and 5.

According to posts here, this is a new "10-year" program, which had actually stutter-started a couple years before. Like all ideas of this sort, getting it all off the ground hasn't been easy.

So this was actually a re-start of the concept and seems to be running smoother than the previous couple years.
