For those of you who teach in UAE (specifically elementary students), what are you qualifications?
1. What kind of education do you have?
2. How many years of teaching experience overseas or at home did you have before getting a job?
3. How easy was it for you to find a job with your qualifications?

Thanks for any information you can provide! I am considering teaching in UAE in the future and just wanted to see what I needed to be competitive in the ESL market.

For those who are working in a public school (elementary or secondary), how did you obtain employment? I can't seem to find where to go to apply for any of these international jobs. With the exception of Teach Away, which may or may not contact you after you submit your application because of the volume of resumes that they receive, I can't seem to find any other way of applying for a job overseas.

Check out Tes.co.uk. The majority of jobs at elementary/secondary level are with private International K12 schools. There are numerous varieties of these throughout the UAE.

The general requirement of these schools is a degree and PGCE, usually with QTS if it's a British Curriculum School.

The degree of experience required tends to be dependent upon the level of urgency for filling the position.

It's worth keeping an eye on the adverts now as it's not unusual for new hires to have a change of heart and hightail it home, or not show up. After Christmas is also a good time, but in general the majority of adverts for this region will be posted around March time.

I do know that there are some schools in Sharjah that will hire without the PGCE as long as you have a relevant degree and teaching experience, though to be fair they don't pay particularly well ... and Sharjah isn't an ideal location if you want to be in the middle of things.
