Two years ago I seriously considered bringing over my dog. If it weren't for US restrictions on transporting short-nose breeds I probably would have.

On a trip this week I packed an electronic thermometer that retains high and low temperatures. I reset before checking the luggage.

The results:
High: 102 degrees (39 degrees celsius)
Low: 53 degrees (12 degrees celsius)

I arrived at night so the 102 was not a Dubai "sitting in the sun" reading. I have no way of knowing how long the temperatures were that cold or hot. Most animals, including my pug, could handle those temperatures. I am happy I didn't make the attempt.

This is simply something to think about for those considering the trip.

I don't know about other airlines but I know KLM has a temperature controlled hold for transporting animals and their ground crew is very good at making sure the animals are taken to the quarantine holding area very quickly.

That said, I always travelled with my dog in January/February so the heat being an issue was a moot point (and she had lots of fur - double coat) so cold wasn't an issue either enroute

I have travelled with pets in the Middle East.

I always visited the airport and made queries about flights with air conditioned holds.

I then completed forms which went to the pilot who would accept that the plane would fly with live cargo.

I never enjoyed the flights knowing that my pets were in the cargo hold but they calmed down quickly and there didn't seem to be long term after effects.
