Hi, I might be teaching in China in five or six weeks time. Do I need to update my CRB check? (im in Korea and I one but its a year old). How long does it take normally to get a new one?
Thanks |

Ive answered my own question, I cant get an update I need to get a new one, it takes about 6 weeks. However, it seems I dont do it as an individual I need to be sponsored for it........does that mean I cant get one until I have a job? Would the organisation I work for (possibly Aston) sort it out for him after I arrived or what? |

I could be speaking out of turn, but I dont think any kind of CRB check is required in China. I have never had one from any of my three previous employers...and judging by the manner and disposition of some of the lunatics you encounter in China...they havent had a CRB check either |

It's not required. But, yeah, nickpellatt, if the current crop of "teachers" is any indication, China's gonna wise up pretty quickly. |

Maybe this should be appended. Perhaps the SCHOOL (in this case, Aston) would require a background check, but the Chinese government doesn't. |

i tried to have this conversation in another thread but that thread was locked for who knows what reason. korea is now requiring FBI checks from US citizens (huge hassle) so it seems hard to believe that china would not change the requirements at some point in the future. |

I wouldn't worry about it. The conditions that prompted the Koreans to turn their ESL industry into more of a shambles than it was before don't exist here in China as of yet.
China is a bit more used to Foreigners acting badly so to speak with the Opium wars and all. |

Even if the employer asked for a CRB check (and I've never heard of it yet in China) I suspect they wouldn't be concerned if it was a year old and you can account for the past year in Korea. |
