My pay for HOD/Director of a 50 teacher English Department in 2008 was 1200 OMR base salary. When housing was added the package was 1500 take home OMR per month.
You will earn every baisa......it is AFGE.
Have fun! |
Thanks for the info. I don't think that would be possible as this is quite a small college. Also, 50 teachers is quite a bit more than 8! I'll have to be Ok with the amount they have offered, but I'd be interested in AFGE. How did you find that gig?

I would only do it if I were given a sidearm and the right to execute those disobeying orders. |

Perhaps a telling quote indeed! I have found out the following now.
1) They will only reduce my teaching hours by 3 in order to take on this position.
2) Again, the salary would be OR 1200.
3) They have an interesting scheme here. For 'lab' hours, 1 hour is considered 2/3 of a normal hour. So, a 3 hour class is considered 2 hours if taught in a lab. Very strange indeed.
What do you think after these new developments?

I'd say that it makes it less appealing? But, then the pay with the teaching hours have already been discussed as a negative.
The lab hours adjustment is a new one... haven't heard of it. That said, 15 teaching hours a week, which used to be the norm in the Gulf, is now uncommon.
Ball's in your court... It's still a chance to try management if your interest runs in that direction. Fluffs up the CV a bit.

I sat down with the dean and discussed things today. I let him have some time to decide. We'll have to see what happens next. I'll report on this exciting saga when I have news. |
