Here's a question. How will Migracion know how many days one has been out of the country since the new ID cards have no pages to put the stamps of when one left and returned?
|
Maybe this information is in the INM computer system |

I teach independently but if I ever start working for a company I have to take a letter from them to Migracion and pay a fee. That's pretty much it if the change only involves employment. So I was told. |

Does that mean the 24 hour renewal in D.F. isn't available this time? |
I think it's safe to say that it's NOT available. |
Smart answer, but doesn't really answer my question. Were the people who did the renewal aware of its existance? (I've used it in the last couple of years), did they ask for it? Were they specifically told it wasn't available, due to the change of system? |

Perhaps. When one flies out of Mexico is there a form to fill out? Maybe the form is what's used to keep track of how long one has been out of the country. I have to watch mine because I have to FM-2 which doesn't give as many days as an FM-3.
I'm asking about flying because I haven't flown out of the DF in a while. |

I was just told that they don't have it. Not sure how reliable my source is. |

I want to add translation to my already-approved teaching activities. |

Basil,
I renewed in Oaxaca in July. It's pretty straight forward. You need a letter from you saying the conditions under which you were given your FM3 remain the same, . . . |
But what if the conditions have changed . . . ? |
Then I assume you include documentation of it. For example, my address had not changed so I did not need to include proof of address... |

Would you have to take a letter into Migracion for that?? |

To be quite honest, I wouldn't bother! (Well, in fact I don't). As long as you are authorized to do something similar (teaching English), I really don't think INM and Hacienda are going to be sniffing around for every fine detail of your work. Didn't I hear somewhere that if you're authorized to do something now you can do practically anything (legal)? |

Hey MotherF,
Excellent, that's exactly the information that I needed. Thanks!
Do I get the letter saying that my employment terms remain the same from my employer (the university) or is it something I can just put in writing myself?

I wonder who told you that? I've had trouble with one employer (a museum that is part of the UNAM) whom I do translations for. When they saw that my FM3 does not give me permission to do translations, they refused to pay me using my own recibos. My contact person went crazy trying to figure out a way to pay me. I want to avoid this problem in the future, so I need to have my FM3 "amplified" to include translation as a permitted paid activity. |

One of the workers at the Migracion office told me the day I dropped off my old visa. |

Maybe the rules have changed or maybe the worker didn't know what he or she was talking about (please forgive my cynicism). Even if it's true, the sticklers-for-detail at the UNAM payroll office may not know about this new rule. Do the new FM3s specify what lucrative activities you are allowed to practice like the old ones do? |
