Instead of considering visa agencies in Ottawa, which is where most of the consulates and embassies are in Canada, I unwisely opted to deal with Visa Universe, located in Vancouver. After paying $305 for a visa that was supposed to have been ready in 7 working days, it has now been 17 and yet I still have no visa.
Visa Universe has a go-between in Ottawa, apparently, but s/he has not answered or returned any of their calls and/or other messages with anything meaningful -- when the messages are even answered at all, which is anything but promptly.
Moreover, I was informed that prices are fixed, and that although I paid for a visa that would be ready in 7 working-days , they will not downgrade it to the price of an 11-working day visa and refund me the difference, despite the fact that I have been awaiting for well over 11 days.
The receptionist, Bonnie, is very kind and polite but ultimately powerless and effectively useless.
If I am not issued the requested refund I would at mimimum file a complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau; if I have more time (unlikely) I think I will take them to court.
If after reading this you still choose to do business with Visa Universe, don't say you haven't been warned!
Update: It took 16 working days for the director to finally call the consulate herself. She told me she would have an "answer" later that day, but never contacted me nor returned my telephone call. Naturally.
Moral of the story: research these agencies. Also, please click on my review of the agency (which I have essentially posted above) and rate it:

I submitted my first Saudi Arabia visa application via UPS Overnight. I decided to use www.travisa.com instead of A Briggs. This is my first time, so I hope all goes well.
I am America submitting from the U.S. |
Visa handlers are worth it or my company wouldn't have paid for one for me. I recommend Doran Visa Svcs in Washington. |

Just to endorse what Chailocks had to say immediately above, but this time for the Saudi Arabia Cultural Bureau in Ottawa, Canada:
1
"The folks at the Cultural Mission (Bureau) are really easy to work with, and process the documents promptly...they are nice..."
2
Also, MSQ Visaenterprise in Ottawa ( http://www.visaenterprise.com/ ) is the agency I've been dealing with, and I'm very happy with them. I wouldn't have wanted to do it on my own.
Its all coming to a close, even as we speak...soon a falafel on the Corniche! |
