Hi All,

I am seriously thinking about applying to Zayed University as an EFL Instructor or as a teacher in its Adult Continuing Education program. What have your experiences been like at ZU? Atmosphere, housing, classroms, management etc. etc.

I have quite afew colleagues and acquaintances who work / have worked there, and they report few problems. It seems that their managers are far more competent than the typical goons they get here at HCT, and the students are more capable too.

But I could be wrong. Any present ZU instructors care to comment?

ZU was originally set up as a western-style university that focused on educating female UAE nationals. ZU had a good record of finding solid academic credentials, and educating the brightest women in the country.

They've changed their focus very significantly in recent years (if I was an accreditor, I'd be asking serious questions about whether or not they can sustain their success).

Since securing accreditation, they've added research centers, campuses for non-nationals, and a campus for men. I seem to recall that ZU was also the hiring authority (read "visa mill") for MAG (rest their souls). ZU has also added graduate degrees to their menu - although I think there's some question about who's actually offering and awarding the degrees.

Most of the people I know with ZU were among the school's original hires. They're still reasonably pleased with the University.

If you're looking at a position with one of the two main women's campuses - I'd say it's a good gig. Otherwise, ask a lot of questions.

It would definitely be a better choice than HCT, which seems to be on a mission to alienate its entire staff. Keep on knocking on ZU's doors for a good while!
