Hello there fellow pool sharks.

I've been in Jeddah for a few days and it would be nice to meet up with a native English speaker and play a few games of pool sometime. If you like pool and are a decent player I would like to challenge you.

I'm not in Jeddah now, but have been. I gotta tell ya...I once played a game of snooker with this British BAe fellow up in Taif at their compound. I shoot rather hard which, anyone familiar with snooker knows, is counter-intuitive as snooker is a game of finesse...but it's my style. I wiped him out.

Apparently, it isn't quite "cricket" for a 'merican to give such a public drubbing to a British person at what is essentially a British game. Hopefully, you'll react differently when shown superior skills...things were never the same between Derek and myself...altho you did mention "pool" which is altogether different and considerably more pedestrian...

I stipulated that I would like to play pool with a native speaker of English because I don't want to have to 'dumb down' my English whilst in their company. I apologise if some people find this discriminatory.

NCTBA - I hardly think that I need to worry about being shown superior skills on a snooker table by an American! Ha Ha! Laughing

I have my own snooker table back in the UK and I'm more than capable of knocking in century breaks thank you very much!! For you Americans you need to pot the colors (sic) in the following order: yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black.

Scot47 - I am neither wealthy nor upper-class so by definition I am not a toff.

N.B. Said century breaks have occurred on a 6 foot by 3 foot table with the balls optimally placed for high scoring. Embarassed

My highest break on a full-size table in a game situation is a respectable but hardly intimidating 43. I've won pool tournaments in the local pub back home though.

Where I come from anyone with an English accent is a "toff" !

Well too bad, I am a native English speaker, but I am from Jamaica.

So while I would be able to understand everything you speak, you will get less than half of what I speak, in other words, I would have to "dumb down" my speech, and I am just not up for that.

Well the fact that I stated in this thread that I'm from England was a bit of a hint really. In any case, although my father is English my mother in fact hails from Australia so you need to work on your 'olfactory sensitivity' there Mr Scott sir. Whilst I'm at it, I'm sure you'll be delighted to know that I've found a nice perfectly fine flat in Jeddah for 2K a month which kind of contradicts what you said a short while ago regarding the cost of renting in Jeddah. We obviously have different perceptions regarding what constitutes a half-decent flat.

And I really don't think I'd even follow a quarter of what someone said if they were to speak in a Jamaican accent. After all, I can only catch about 15% when Nigerians speak their version of English.

Nigerians sound funny when they speak English... and even funnier when you realize that there is a 73.8% chance that the Nigerian you are speaking to is either a drug dealer, a scam artist, or both Razz
