Hello, fellow teachers and lurkers, etc.

It is with relief and some glee that I announce I have won my lawsuit for illegal dismissal against BKC-IH Moscow.

Here is the update:
http://thingsevewoulddo.blogspot.com/2010/09/eve-wins-lawsuit-against-bkc-ih-moscow.html

For reference, you can check out my links from December on this board:

http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=75271&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

and

http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=77665&highlight=

I want to give a sincere thank you to hughesie, sashadroogie and so many others who helped me through that horrific time last December.

What my lawsuit against BKC means is that you have rights as a foreign worker in Russia, whether the schools want to believe so or not.

You also have the right to sue them if they mess with you.

Congratulations! Respect is due!

That's a very important precedent and I hope it changes the way teachers are treated.

If it's not a secret, can you post the details of the lawyer who handled the case? It might be useful for future reference as he/she will already be familiar with the groundwork.

If you don't want to post it here can you PM me, please?

@Nexus - Good to see you here on the board! Thank you for the congrats. I am very happy that this case has set a precedent in the Russian court system.

i will email the lawyers who handled the case to see if it's OK to pass along their information. The main lawyer is a workers' rights advocate, but this was his first case involving a foreigner. He did a spectacular job and I am very grateful. I'm update the forum if/when I get his OK.

If ever anyone on this forum deserved to win a case against this Mac School after what happened to her, this lady is number one!
Now the question is,how many others will dare to follow her?
As we can see from the latest postings, they are still finding new 'fodder for their cannons!'

Wow, that is just terrific news for a number of reasons, Eve. The first being that the Russian justice system can actually work; a great relief for someone who lives in the country.
Enjoy Korea, and best of luck to you!

@sasha - Smile Awesome song. Very Russian, very "Victory!"

@Insubordination - thank you so much for following my story! I can't believe it worked out, either!

@maruss - it is my sincere hope that others will use this precedent and start filing lawsuits against these shady schools.

@jpvander - I am so relieved the Russian judicial system actually worked - this is good news for every foreign worker in Russia. Smile

Hi, everyone. I talked to my lawyers, and the advocate wants to hold off on posting his name here because BKC may appeal. If they do, then a Moscow superior court will have to confirm the district court's ruling. He wants to make sure it's a final win before breaking out the champagne. Smile

I'll keep the forum updated for sure once the written verdict comes down next month. We'll know more then.

Thanks again for everyone's congratulations - it's a big victory, but my lawyers are still cautious about what might come next.

Proper order too.

It's a moral victory in any case. Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing that you cost them cash and man-hours dealing with this case. Serves 'em right!

@Sashadroogie - Yes, at the very least it is definitely a "principle of the matter" win. Personally, I think that even if they appeal, they'll lose again since the law is clearly on my side. Either way, I'm taking the first win as a real one. Smile

Thanks so much for posting up about this, I've been adamant about applying to BKC-IH Moscow for January since seeing their adverts about a month ago. It's taken me a lot of convincing but I eventually managed to convince myself not to bother after reading several bits on the net. I'm about to post another thread in this forum asking for some help concerning my situation, if any of you guys can offer some advice then that would be awesome! Thanks.

I know someone who was trained by BKC and ended up working with them for several years. Out of the "mscshools," which seem to be the only way to get your foot in the door in Russia, BKC seems to be the most legit.

That being said, if I already had a CELTA I might have looked elsewhere. But since I wanted to get my training in Russia, that made BKC the only logical answer.

Though they are taking quite long to confirm receiving my deposit, I should be there in January Smile

Methinks this will not end well..... Neutral
