@Shaman...I want to recind my previous statement(s). I see that the Leafs are playing Philly this round. Since I have no Philly players in my pool, this does not currently pose a conflict.

I'm sorry, CG, rescinding of statements is not permitted in Daves ESL Cafe.
If you want to do any rescinding you have to go to Newfoundland.
That's just how it is.

In the immortal words of Steve Martin, I have just one thing to say to all Leaf fans:

Who is your team, boyo? This is either sour grapes or the most gentle pleasantry that could ever exit a Philly fan's slavering maw.

I feel somewhat sorry for Jacques. He's a good coach, but you've got to play with the hand you're dealt. IMHO, (maybe not so H ), the Sens lacked real fire. They always have. They play with skill and that is fine. But in the playoffs, grit is one of the intangibles that will carry a team.
As I type this, it is 2-1 Flyers.

An adendum (sp?): Jacques Martin will definitely find a head coaching position somewhere else next season. He has nothing to worry about.

Jacques is a great coach. Ottawa has had some great regular seasons. They just can't get it done when it counts, like the Canucks. |

I hear that. They've never won a 7th game. I don't think Lalime will be around for next season either. Inre: Canucks - The Flames remind me of that Sabres team that went to the finals a few years ago. One star, a hot goaltender and a bunch of able bodies who adhered to a team concept. The luch pail gang - nothing fancy, but a strong unit. However, I'd be hardpressed to say that will be enough to knock off the Wings - although it's tied at 1 as I type.

| The Flames took the first game. Good for them. After the way they screwed around with Cujo, I'd love to see Ken Holland and the Wings go down. |

My team, boyo, is the only team worth cheering for, the one who elevated the sport to art and overcame the neanderthalism rampant until its rise -- I speak, of course, of the immortal Edmonton Oilers, who I admit are now a sad copy of that once great time.
I despise Toronto (that's Canada's second national sport, after hockey but before lacrosse) because of the superior colonialist attitude of the way they look at anything outside of their own area code. They are NOT Canada's team, and it drives me nuts when you go to a game in a city whose team has only been in the league 25 years or so and half the fans are cheering for the Leafs.
While I hate the Flyers for the way they play and their GMs attitude of treating good people as sisposable asswipe and loathe the Rangers for the way they try to buy a team year after year and can't even make the playoffs on a $80 million payroll, I cheer against the Leafs simply because their home is Toronto (and yes, I have lived there so I do know what the place is like)
Here's hoping for a long layoff next year and some financial sanity so all teams can compete, not just those at the "centre of the universe." |

Then how, pray tell, can they not be Canada's team? The truth is that the Leafs have the widest fan base in the sport. The conditions you just described can be witnessed in many different arenas.
To bad about your Oilers. I was pulling for them. It is refreshing to know you're not a Philly fan.
Sorry about your hate-on for T.O. both city and team. Lots of people share that opinion and will go out of their way to make their feelings known. If Toronto loses to a team other than Montreal, I still hear about it ad nauseum. If the Habs lose to a team other than the Leafs, I don't bother mentioning it.
Is that I consider my team to be "the centre of the universe"? My colonial aloofness? Nope. Maybe I figure it's not my place to lip off because my team wasn't involved in the outcome.
I'm a born and bred Scarberian, but moved away at 13. It's an interesting phenomenon that the biggest city in a country is often despised by those living outside of it.

P.S. Who are you cheering for now? The Flames? |

Great pictures Shaman.
I like this one too, despite being a die hard Canuck fan. Sad, but true.
