Has anyone worked here? I am going there with AETG on Oct. 1.

Never worked there although my compny had threatened many of us to be bussed down there to a new job site. Al Kharg is really nowhere. It's around an hour south of Riyadh...however the direction south from Riyadh is the direction you DON'T want to travel from Riyadh as it's in the direction of the Rub al Khali.

There's really not much to Kharg...its only claim to ANY fame is being where the Prince Sultan Air Base (my threatened new work site) is located...

During the Gulf war, Uncle Sam and his associates, have left Al-Kharj soil spoiled with exposure to depleted uranium, chemical weapons, anthrax vaccines etc, and left American soldiers and civilians infected with different types of infectious diseases in that region!!!

Do you have any idea what life is like in small-town Saudi Arabia ? I am sorry to say that in my opinion you are in for a BIG SHOCK !

A gender-segregated society where the men's expectation of women is that they stay at home. All the time.

Doncha mean Mad Max Beyond kingdom? Anyway, you seem incorrigible. 100 degrees? The only time it gets down to those levels are in late Fall and early Spring!

Well, I let you read this article by an English teacher who spent one year in Al-Kharj. He wrote this:
"For a year, I had been living in the ultra-conservative city of Al-Kharj, in the heartland of the kingdom. The experience was akin to living in the American Bible Belt, but on steroids. The dusty city is an hours drive southeast of Riyadh, the capital. From Riyadh, its a one-hour flight west to Jidda, the San Francisco of Saudi Arabia".

I hope after one year you will not escape to San Francisco of the Magic Kingdom! Laughing
