How bizarre... is TATI hiring for MOM or MoHE? (or both?) It sounds like it has moved into farce.
Classes seem to be starting in early October in some places in Oman (very late)... I suspect that MOM will be included in that list... but will they have any teachers?
Will PM and the duderino be receiving sudden panic requests that they arrive yesterday?

Thanks for the update santivalle: PM coming your way.
VS: I don't know about the duderino, but I've arranged a teaching schedule with my school from last year and may already be seen passing photocopied exercises and making strange comments to impressionable young ladies (it's mostly ladies here, for some reason) in Krakow's finest coffee shops - for a small fee, you understand ... as plans B go, it'll do for now.
And IF TATI call, please remind me to be polite (after all, there's always next year ...) |

So I got an email from TATI two days ago to arrange a phone interview with Ibra, not Ibri. Unfortunately, just a few days too late. Still, nice to know I wasn't at the very bottom of the slushy pile and, who knows, it might serve me well for next year ...
Thanks for all the info, guys. It's been invaluable over the last few months.

After several inquiries, I'm not sure who or what to believe. TATI says one thing, the university says another (cryptically), and this forum leaves a third impression. All I can be sure of is that nobody wants to explain (or knows??) what exactly is taking place. Jobs have been offered to candidates, and yet somehow those candidates, or some of them, are deliberately being hung out to dry. Perhaps the universities and/or ministry inadvertently overestimated the number of new teachers they would be needing, but since all parties have been evasive in regards to explanations, there seems to be something else afoot. I'd really like to hear from some teachers who are already in Oman about this whole process, perhaps even a newly-arrived teacher whose job offer came through.
Also, if I'm being told that the job is still mine if I can wait until January, is it A) naive to believe, and B) normal for teachers to be brought on in the middle of the year?
One more question. Why is Ibra looking for teachers even while teachers who have signed job offers elsewhere are being given the run-around? Is there something specifically wrong with the place?
Good luck, PM. I'm curious what final story TATI has told you about the reason for the delay/whatever. I'm in search of work, but will find something. |

The only thing TATI told me - about a month ago - was that "The Ministry have said they won't need all the teachers until January." I don't know anything else apart from their invitation to interview for Ibra. |

Duderino, this job seeking in Oman seems not to be for the faint of heart. I understand your predicament entirely. I have been waiting to hear from Globnet about a position, I turned the first offer down in Ibri, since September 12th. I finally got contacted this week with other options, but for some reason, probably exactly as Santivalle stated, there seems to be a hold up at MoM. Also, got a call out of the blue for another agency offering me a job at the college in Sohar and asking me to leave in five days. I know this is probably no help to you, but I'm just saying others are in your shoes also. It is like a total roller coaster ride, isn't it?
I would just say to you, prepare for that last minute phone call and be ready to go. |

Anybody else curious about why Bahwan Cybertek has reposted their ad for the same positions we've been discussing? Since I was offered a job through a different company, a job that has been delayed or whatever for mysterious reasons, yet another company is hiring for "the current academic year" in those same positions, I can only assume that there is some kind of bureaucratic battle taking place amongst the various recruiters and the ministry. As such, I don't suppose it would be unethical or inappropriate to re-apply through Bahwan Cybertek. Any thoughts?
I don't think I'll mention to them that I already interviewed and have been offered a job. Seems like it would be easy money on their end to work with me, as I've already been interviewed and selected as a candidate by a university. ??
As for the roller-coaster ride, I'm riding several cars at the moment. I'll need to choose one in the next few days. |
