I have been told by a school that my husband and I's Universities are not among the list of universities that the Taiwan government can consider for the work permit application.

Why is this? They are both normal universities!

What's the name of the university you and yours graduated from?

How would you define "normal?"

What aren't you telling us? There is definitely more to this than Taiwan not recognizing the university for no reason. What about the country the uni is located in and the name of it?

We both graduated in South Africa

I did a three year degree at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University

and Rob did a four year degree at Durban Institute of Technology

What I mean by normal is they are both accredited Universities.

I didn't know that the Taiwanese government issued work permits based on a list of accredited foreign schools.

Do you think that the school's rejection is based on other criteria?

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University is not among the list of universities that the Taiwan government can consider for the work permit application. I cannot find Durban Institute of Technology, either. I will have to check on
these.

I wonder if it is because the NMMU was formed in 2005?

Regulations Regarding the Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Academic Credentials by Institutions of Higher Education announced by the Ministry, foreign academic credentials are recognized only if they meet the following criteria:

(1) The school from which said credentials were obtained is on the list of schools recognized by the Ministry or is recognized by the supervisory authority of the local government or by a professional certification institution.

(2) The length of study and courses taken must be comparable to those of the Taiwanese schools of the same level and type. Those awarded a bachelor's degree must have studied in a local school for a total of at least 32 months, with those awarded a master's degree having studied there for at least 8 months and those awarded a doctorate at least 16 months.

I know someone who worked in Taiwan for some time on a degree from UPE. So there shouldn`t be a problem with NMMU

The problem is probably that the South Africa ministery of Education has n`t update all the new changes with the Taiwanese government or vice-versa.

I worked in Taiwan with a BA HONs from rhodes.

It could also be the school who arent expert on the subject. I would suggest you google Kojen English, Taiwan which is a big chain of language schools who recruit South Africans. You can look for the recruiter who in my time was a lady from the Philippines called Luisa Sias. Explain your story to her and ask if she has any details that might help.

You could also try Hess English as they are also big recruiters of South Africans.
