Define "inexpensive".

These are the cheapest ones that I know of:

Nada Village
Saudia City

You are looking at about SR. 25,000 to SR. 30,000 per year. (studio/small 1BR)

Is Nada Village that one that's full of mobile homes? My only compound experience in Jeddah are the Khalidiya and Arabian Homes compounds...NOT for the faint of heart or the thinness of wallets!

Compounds are not cheap. You want cheap, get an apartment.

A good employer will provide housing for you. Negotiating the Real Estate Maze is a nightmare for anyone - especially for a foreigner not used to oriental ways !

Thank you for your replies. SR 30,000 is fine with me. I can probably afford SR35,000 or 40,000 for a decent one-bedroom in a clean compound that's not far from KAU. I'll check the ones you mentioned.
