I didn't take your post as a downer. In fact, as I fade away from Bui Vien, I'm having a fine time (though I like to get back there on the weekend sometimes).
Yea, the initial rush fades -- hopefully, to ever-deeper experiences and understanding.
What a cool time and place. |
Indeed, I would like to get away from Bui Vien too. I am waiting for my new place to open up. Soon I will be in a great place in D3. I am for the most part, though, in love with this place. I find the Vietnamese to be amazing people, and boy, their women are tough. It is amazing to see the way they conduct business in the markets and at the street cafes/restaurants. |

Try being married to one I've always found it funny how people think Viet women are quiet and submissive then after marrage find that isn't the case I've lived with Viet people, soley, for over 10 years (in VN and The States) and have never met one without some big ones |

Viet women are the backbone of the country. Submissive? Certainly not-smart, thrifty, caring, attentive- most definately. Hard working? Watch them in the markets and carrying heavy loads in the street whilst the menfolk smoke and laze about on their motorbikes grtgetting drunk on the money their women make. Says it all.
Are they liberated? Still not, but getting there. To quell the small but vocal band of do gooders, I have to add that there are exceptions, but as one Viet woman said "I'm going to be a liberated woman-if my husband will allow it". |

Outstanding quote!
But regarding working/staying at home ... there are also a fair number of women/girls who lie around while their husbands are out working. |

Very well put. Don't they say something like "it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for".
Anyhoo, Vietnamese people rock. |
