Dear Grendel,
Nope, I never was a D.I. I love that movie, though; Kubrick really got Parris Island and Vietnam right (in my not-so-humble opinion.)
Another good one is "The D.I.," with Jack Webb. who used to play Sgt. Friday on "Dragnet."
