Would these qualifications make someone employable and would it be possible to apply directly to the school without going through the EdB?

But you say you're already a NET ... so you must have gone through the process already??

The paperwork has gone through because it had too, but that doesn't mean that I work in the local school system.

Smoke and mirrors! 'NET' on this forum usually refers to someone on the EDB's 'NET Programme'.

Come here, do the PGDE, then get the list of hiring schools from the local NET teachers association (NESTA). Then send your CV to the schools directly, or even rock up at the principal's office yourself. No guarantee it will work, but I reckon you'd have a good shot.

Interesting - so if you are here and have the right qualifications, you can skip the EdB and just apply straight to the schools? Thus I am assuming that they rely on their own budgets rather than a central budget for paying their NETs?

So, with:

an MA in TESOL (from a UK university)
a B.Ed (Hons) (from a UK university)
a CELTA and
IELTS examiner status
and NET status in HK but no local school experience....

Would these qualifications make someone employable and would it be possible to apply directly to the school without going through the EdB?

AFTER you have passed the EDB NET interview, you may than apply directly to schools.

You do not have to do a EDB interview to be accepted onto the NET Scheme. You can be interviewed by any school without having an EDB interview or having been accepted by the EDB.
The school can offer you a contract as long as your qualifications match the requirements set by the EDB. However, if at some later stage you wish to change schools and request the EDB to help you find a new placement, then you will have to go through the EDB interview.

I know the New Territories isn't central hong kong...but to call it quiet and calm...I'd like to see your definition of noisy then!

From a NET working and living in the NT!
