|
|
Can anyone help me? I am trying to get a job teaching English for BAE. I have a CELTA, DELTA, an MEd in ELT from a leading UK University and am currently writing my PhD part-time. I have spoken to their recruitment section and sent in my CV, but I have had no response. I think one of the problems is that, although I have nearly 9 years teaching experience, since 2004 I have been working in teacher training, materials development and ELT management, and only recently has my job started to involve actual English teaching and this is only on a part-time basis (although I am now working in an Arabic speaking country). I was wondering if anyone could suggest a contact at BAE who I could write to or email to ask what sort of experience they would be looking for in order to consider me. The people who pick up the phone at their recruitment section in Preston are very polite and friendly, but can't really deal with my request. |

Believe it or not, even after securing a job here, you've already recognized what will remain consistent in your experience.
Classroom experience, a variety, is essential. However I've met teachers in preparatory programs with degrees in subjects as removed as Economics with no class experience.
But practice makes perfect. And you're saying you have little, if any, practice of the art. You'll experience a population of students many characterize as unique.
Everyone's first year of teaching is a test never forgotten. |

Yes, but I am specifically interested in BAE as they offer the best pay and conditions for teachers in Saudi |

This BAE of which you speak, pay and conditions being best, is but a mirage. |

JR's link is for a foundation year, PYP or preparatory year program. A work in progress, to say the least, throughout the ME. Superman should apply. I think to qualify for that job all I should have to do is show up a one-man band. |

In direct response to what you asked:
1. It can take up to 6 months for BAE to decide to bring you in for an interview. This partly due to a myriad of things such as extensive background checks, previous employer verification checks (once again very extensive), backlog with other applicants, facility demand at the time.
2. Don't contact them directly. They'll contact you or they won't.
3. You need a PGCE for Riyadh, but not for Dammam. Going by your qualifications I'd say you're out of luck with Riyadh which puts you with everyone else for Dammam.
4. Your recent "part-time basis" of employment would work against you in the application process. That being said however, I am not BAE HR so who knows
5. Finally, even if you were to get hired by them, be prepared for some seriously intense peer-reviewing and classroom evaluations especially in your first 6 months there. Probably the toughest out there. You fail one you're given a warning, you fail 2 you're out. These evaluations continue throughout your stint with BAE no matter how long you're there. I personally knew one guy who was there all of 14 years, failed his 2nd evaluation (in 14 years!) and was told he was "being processed out".
Yes. It's a good gig. But you'll earn it. |

"Dammam"? Shouldn't that be - "Dhahran" happyroofus ?
BAE Systems has a dedicated website for its Saudi postings. |

No, Dassault Aviation produce the mirage - http://www.mirage-jet.com/ .
BAE Systems is in the consortium that produces the euro fighter typhoon - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurofighter_Typhoon
Please be more accurate guys!
