| They don't bother with/know how to translate transcripts here. Bring the actual diploma/degree/sheepskin itself. That's what they need to apply for the FEC. The schools FAO will want to see it, and will then make a copy of it to take to the FEB when they apply for the FEC. |

A copy of the diploma will work. I've never taken my real diploma anywhere. I just have a nice scan of it on my computer and I send that to schools. Yes, I have my FEC sitting right next to me so it works.
Schools do not ALWAYS check whether your degree is valid or not, but they can and some do. My school checks and the last FT here was canned because he didn't actually go to University. But they also gave him a letter of recommendation and now he's at another school. |

No. Transcripts are the pieces of paper you get wiith all of your classes and grades and the degree you earned listed and sealed by the school. The degree is that actual piece of paper they hand you on graduation day which you take home and frame and hang on your wall.
Bring that (without the frame). I brought my transcripts and the school didn't care. I had to have my family scan me a copy of my actual degree the first year. That worked for two years. The third year, the school asked for the actual original. The next year, I was hired with the copy, but when it came to apply for the FEC, they needed to see the original, which I had to have my family Fed-Ex to me. That was 9 years ago. In the following 9 years, I have changed school's twice more. Those school's hired me based on the copy, but at FEC time, they made me come to the office so they could see the original (which I keep).
Now xi.gua's (and others') mileage may have varied, but that's my experience at 5 different schools in 3 provinces over 13 years, and the experience of all the FTs at the schools I have worked at and at most other schools I know of as well. So, as long as you have the original degree, you may as well bring it with you.
Bring the transcripts if you have them. If not, don't sweat it. The actual degree will suffice.

They want to see pieces of paper for degrees and certificates (originals or copies we can argue about).

Most mills could care less what you produce. However, if you are going to get a better position and stay in China- or a better opportunity comes along, bring certified transcripts- sealed and a copy along with your original degree. Just do not allow them to keep your original degree.
For positions that pay well, they will actually run a check on you and verify your credentials.
Be prepared just in case a good opening comes along. |

| I'm at my second school and I've never heard of any school wanting a paper copy of the diploma or transcripts, just my two cents, if the school specifically asks for them bring it otherwise I'd leave it at home. Maybe it's different in different provinces. |

I just did an interview yesterday for a job in Shenzhen - the school told me that I must bring the original copy of my degree and CELTA certificate to show the PSB as they will not accept copies!
Yet, for my current job (in another city nearby) there has been no problem with the PSB accepting copies of these certificates.
It may be that different places have different rules about what they accept. |
