I was wondering if anyone knows of where to get classroom decoration supplies here. You know, the typical bullitan board supplies, posters, "WAY TO GO!" banners, etc. Things like cardboard cutout stars, trees with leaves to change depending on the season (ok ok, I know the seasons don't really change here, but you know what I mean.)
I'm a gymnastics coach/phys ed teachers, so I'd prefer things that are sports or health oriented, but I know I can't be picky, so anything will do, as long as it's not in Vietnamese or Korean. (pictures without words work, too)
I'll be ordering a bunch of stuff from Amazon and Oriental Trading Co. (through my school), but if I can get stuff locally, it'd be faster and better.
Any ideas? |

Wow, you're here spending your own money to decorate? I still cringe when teachers buy pizza for their class. OK so I'm a tightwad. Try bookstores, particularly Fahasa. I think there are several in HCMC, location unsure. And if you can't tell by the ever-present book peddlers in Pham Ngu Lao, we're in a bit of printer's hub-- you could, probably with help from a Vietnamese speaker, have a shop design and print anything you want for a fairly cheap price, or, as with tailors, simply bring a small printout of something you find on google images and ask them to "Make big." Print shops are everywhere, look for signs that say "Copy" "Plastic Ep" etc. |

Oh gosh no!! I'm hardly using my own money for pens and paper! I quite enjoy spending my school's money, and they seem quite willing to purchase whatever I need, or have it shipped from Korea (within reason, of course). The campus is brand new, we've barely started taking registrations for students, so we're having to literally decorate the building from scratch.
I'll try checking out Fahasa this weekend. Hopefully they'll have something. I never thought of getting print shops to make larger copies for me. That's a great idea, thanks! Are there any you specifically recommend? (I've only been here a week, so I'm still finding my way around town). |
