Is it correct that one is going to be interviewed by the psb ? If so, what's this about ?
If not, forget about it.

Why would the PSB want to interview you? Are you applying for a job? |

The PSB will talk to your FAO if they have questions. Who in $#@@! told you that the PSB would want to interview you? |

In Guangdong, I had to talk/interview with an Exit-Entry PSB officer when my school applied for my 1st RP issued in Guangdong.
They asked me a few questions, such as "Where are you from?" etc... I think they just wanted to see that I was for real.
Don't believe the hype! Most folk "advising" you on this board really don't have a clue. I certainly don't.
Granted, things in Guangdong are different. |

I've been interviewed by the PSB. It was more of them trying to figure me out and make sure I understand the rules in China more than anything. They asked me stuff about if I was religious and if I plan on talking about it in class, which of course I don't. They also wanted to make sure that I wasn't gonna go around town sleeping with every girl I come across. Just stuff like that, it wasn't a pressured situation, they just wanted to talk to me and make it clear that i'm not allowed to run wild on the town and teach kids anti-communism garbage. |

Yes, this is such a threat for China, isn't it? Are you seriously saying that they told you not to be with Chinese girls? Is it not ridiculous in this day and age that they would interfere in your personal life like that? I don't think your interview was normal at all. Perhaps they had some incident... or the people in that PSB office are a little more 'anti foreigner'. |

I assume that those who are interviewed by the PSB don't have an FAO handy to answer questions. FAO stands for Foreign Affairs Office(r). The job of the FAO is to handle these sorts of things, not just hand out pay to FTs.
I wonder in which language the interview was conducted--- Chinese, English, Swahili?
Was an interpreter provided?
I don't doubt that the PSB is interested in the comings and goings of foreigners in Guondong. I've heard some unusual stories about that province. I don't think, however, that PSB interviews are very common. I've never even heard English spoken inside the PSB except when the FTs go to fill out paperwork. |

They said I can be with Chinese girls, they just made it clear that I couldn't be with students in a romantic relationship or going to bars to pick up girls all the time just for a night. They always seem to have that stipulation of "Anything you do not in the best interest of the university can be grounds for termination"
In a way I think it's fine because I don't do that kind of stuff anyway, but if they flat out said I couldn't have a girlfriend......well.....I wouldn't be here. |

No xit.
I had a PSB interview in July when I renewed my RP.
Three questions:
Q: You are from Australia?
A: Yes
Q: Do you like China?
A: Yes
Q: Do you get used to the food here?
A: Yes
That was it, in Henan province.
Edited: punctuation. |

My understanding is ALL "foreign experts" are supposed to be interviewed. In our city, the Foreign Affairs Office does it. They ask perhaps three questions, "where are you from?", "do you understand your contract?", "Are you satisfied with your contact?"
This is done to ensure the FT was not hoodwinked and promised one thing then compelled to sign a different contract upon arrival.
They say it is to protect the foreigner and it does seem the purpose. |

My interview was in English. It was more like a friendly chat rather than an interview. Similar to Daniel B., they asked me where I was from and what I thought about China.
I spent 5 minutes talking about my amazement with the different fruits and vegetables here, particularly the size/shape of the watermelons compared to the USA. The lady cut me off and said Ok. My FAO was sitting next to me.
I'm not sure about the inquisition that xi.gua endured. I did ask the interviewer if she was married and told her I was single. She looked good! I'm a sucker for a lady in a uniform. |

The Pet Shop Boys?
I have heard many times, here and there, whispers about how the 'PSB' are all-powerful in the middle kingdom.
Omniscient and omnipresent,
dipping their fingers into everyone's business.
Why they hold such an important position within the constitution of China will forever remain beyond me ~
They'll implore you to Go West, no doubt. |

I am the Foreign HR director at a school in Chongqing with around 60 foreign teachers. All new teachers are required to go in for an interview at the Foreign Experts Office. It is very fast and friendly with questions like....Do you like Chongqing? Can you eat hot pot? This interview is nothing to be worried about. |

Then what's the purpose other than to waste time of the FT and the people at the FEO? |
