|
|
I have scanned quite a few posts and Korea does not seem as attractive as it use to be in terms of salaries and exchange rates.
I graduated in 2007 with a Finance degree in California.
I have ministry experience here in San Francisco for the past three years. I taught bible study to 10-12 yrs old for one school year through Bible Study Fellowship.
I do not plan on having a CELTA before arriving in country. Actually I would like to work a year in Thailand and if I love teaching as I believe I will get my CELTA there.
I am white, blue eyes, late thirties, Californian, with a polished professional appearance with a great love of culture and people.
Do you believe I can get a job making 40-50k baht? I'd like to live out side the city and commute in.
Are there any christian private schools? Dream job would be a christian school teaching 3-4th grade.
Love to hear your thoughts and advice. Positive please or at very least tactful.

Short answer is, "yes, with your qualifications, you can find a job close to requested pay range in or close to BKK".
Longer answer is:
If you want a "Christian School" you may have to be in one of the larger centers (this country is 90-odd percent Buddhist) or in BKK itself (commuting is not really an option with traffic snarled the way it usually is).
Finding a job specific to Gr.3-4 without actually being qualified as a home room teacher is NOT going to be easy. Most likely, for your qualifications and particulars in regards to location you will probably be:
a) at a language institute teaching Gr. 1-6 or
b) the "expert" foreigner teaching English classes to all of the kids in P.1-6 in an elementary school.

You could try the Bangkok Christian School or Kincaid International School (US curriculum...Calif. as well I think)
Both offer salaries at or above what you are seeking. |

Don't they require their staff to be certified teachers?

Sorry to sound a little negative here, but I think you'll find out that it won't be a walk in the park to land a 40-50k job just based on your bible study experience and without an degree related to Education. You will be up against some stiff competition of people who have more experience and a degree plus CELTA/TEFL certificate.
Bangkok Christian college and any international school will want to see either teaching experience (ESL or subject) and/or some qualification that proves that you know how to teach English (or any other subject).
However, you might get lucky if you are at the right place at the right time -just don't assume that you will easily find a 40-50K job.
A language institute (that pays that kind of money) will certainly require a CELTA/TEFL. |

Not sure about the BCS but Kincaid International has teachers there with just CELTA's.

There will be demands and expectations, and there is indeed a lot of competition for these jobs. |
