In my last school, the discipline in one class was so atrocious (children of rich parents) that I spent most of my time telling them to shut up, remove personal stereos, threatening terrifying violence etc. Eventually, I told them that if they didn't want to attend my classes, they needn't come. Don't bother me none. The remaining students actually WANTED to learn, so the rest was plain sailing I'm a teacher, not a prison officer, which is why I don't teach in Britain |

Seeing as how I work at a boarding school, student non-attendance would be somewhat unusual.
It does happen though. Usually due to some adm, inistratice ovesight regarding which class a student should be in. |

| As per university policy, unless they bring in an acceptable written excuse within 3 days, I mark them absent. Again, as per university policy, unless students attend at least 80% of the classes, they aren't allowed to take the final exam. |
What kind of weird uni is that? That should be illegal. Marking attendance at uni? Do they have wear uniforms and call the 'teachers' sir?
My record is attending one lecture in an entire semester - and I got a Distinction for that subject. |
I went to college in the United States of America, and attendance was a very large part of our overall grade. |

| In my university the professors could apply attendence rules if they wished. Often the rules stated that if you missed more than 3 classes you would fail. When I had those professors, I usually tried to miss 4 classes just to test the theory. They were always bent if the grades were good. |
