I'm currently searching for work in Istanbul but I'm not coming across many job postings. Would I be better off booking a one-way flight and taking my chances??

Thanks!

Job market is really bad at the moment.. Lots of partime stuff... I'd try outside of Istanbul and yes book a return flight...

Thanks for the quick replies; much appreciated!
@Sashadroogie are you currently in Istanbul or have you taught there before?
@Kirkpatrick any other cities in Turkey that you would recommend? Or any specific schools?

@Sashadroogie after being there on holiday, were people saying the market was bad? Do you think it's possible to find steady work? I'm hoping to get something in February-March 2011. I have one year's experience teaching kind-elem in Korea, I have a TESL certif and a BA but no teaching degree. You and kirkpatrick have such differing opinions so I'm a little torn on how to go about this...

Also, let's say I book a one-way flight and do secure a job while I'm there. What is the process for a work visa? What documents will I need to bring with me?

I'd start with the American culture association in Kadikoy or over in İzmit.. There is also English one in Bakikoy.. I know they need a teacher..I aiso recomend you go look at the web site seriousteachers.com... There are about 8 schools looking for teachers at the moment... Stay away from English time, Leeds acadamy and Deul com.. Too many hours and Kaysari is a shit hole
