Hey, does anyone know of any good iphone APPS / podcasts for learning Vietnamese? All the Apps i have found are for travel survival phrases only and was looking for something more along the lines of intermediate level.
Also any websites for learning the language would be good. I cant find much which goes beyond beginner. |

I've looked for VNese phrases beyong "survival" and I've had a difficult time, myself.
I've googled, youtubed, and even bought Pimsler (which only has beginner level).
Getting a private tutor seems to be the best option, but if you find anything above the "beginner" and "survival" I'd greatly appreciate a link or note about it.
I'll do the same if I find anything. |

I'm not sure what you consider intermediate, I have just started using the following (as I'm planning a return to Nam next year):
http://langocity.com/learn-vietnamese-course-complete.html
so far I have found it to be good, (although the audio quality sounds a bit old), it starts off with the tones (which is hard), and then starts with basic phrases but it seems to have a lot of content, I'm guessing maybe 24 hours worth.
Also it is Southern Vietnamese which they teach, which is a bonus because it seems that most courses teach northern Vietnmanese and it is surprising just how different the two are, indeed Sth Vietnamese is referred to as tieng nam, whereas nth Vietnmese is tieng bac. |

That actually looks pretty comprehensive. Could you do me a favor mate and give an example of some of the content. I love the idea of being able to load it onto my Ipad/iphone and the fact that it is southern viet.
I have uploaded some stuff from youtube onto my iphone but it is all pretty ordinary in both the sound and picture quality. And it is not really structured all that well.
I was using http://www.l-lingo.com/, but its not great for intermediate levels.
I've always had a teacher when i am in Nam, both in Saigon and Phan Thiet, but to be honest they weren't all that great and it's a bit boring learning by yourself. I have always envied my students who learn in a fun class environment with their mates, but its difficult to find other foreigners with the same language level especially in Phan Thiet.
My level is all over the place, much like other language learners. I can read and write viet pretty well and my vocab is pretty sweet, but my listening skills suck and my pronunciation isnt all that crash hot either. As soon as I am out of Saigon or speaking to a person who hasnt spent time in Saigon then they dont understand me and i dont understand them.
Thanks for the help guys. |
