I'm looking to get a teaching job in the Middle East along with my girlfriend.
I have a BA,

1 yr exp. in Korea...
6 months teaching in general (europe)
and a TEFL (Online)
She has the same but no TEFL and a teaching cert.

I'm counting out the UAE as it seems that all the schools want people with tons of experience and masters.
Do Oman and Saudi offer anything for people in my shoes?
What options are open to us, jobs that preferably pay $3000 a month onwards with flights, accom and so forth included.
Any help will be appreciated...

I'd say that you are both out of luck. Any job in the UAE or Oman that pays anywhere near $3000 would require a minimum of a BA + CELTA (online tefl certs are NOT recognized at all) + 2-5 years of good related experience - most places require the experience to be in teaching academic English, not conversation or language schools.

And that is for the second tier level jobs, the good ones require an MA in Applied Linguistics or TESL/TEFL.

Saudi might have a position for you... but any female accompanying you would need to be married with a valid license to prove it (that is true of all the Gulf BTW). Still the jobs that will take you will be very low level, poor conditions... with likely abusive management. But, you might get up to the $3000 number.

Even the less attractive jobs in Saudi Arabia will require a minimum of a Celta. The better ones will want you to have considerable experience, and preferably an MA as well.

Also, as the other posters have said, if you wish your girlfriend to accompany you to any of the Gulf states, she will have to become your wife first.

Although that might, perhaps, depend on how desperate employers such as (say) the Omani Colleges of Technology and their attendant recruiters are for warm, white bodies and a pulse to place in front of classes. It is not entirely unheard of for people with zero EFL experience at any level and no TEFL certificate of any description to be offered positions with these esteemed institutions. Mr. Green

That was very common in the past, but... supposedly... the Ministry stepped in about a year ago (or was it two)... axed all those without proper credentials and is now actually checking.

That said... Musanna is having a heckuva time getting teachers. Laughing

The Ministry plans (occasionally) and Allah smiles. Mr. Green

get married to get employed hey? (I'm only 26...)
I don't know if that sounds better or worse than signing a hagwon contract in Korea.
Cheers for the replies...
I think Korea (again...more experience) looms...
