I have a former student (college) who is in need of professional counseling services. I have no idea what is available. I'm in Al Ain but this guy would not have a problem traveling to Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Psychological.

I have not gone to the administration because I know of the stigma here on psychological issues. I'd like to know about community resources or of resources the U should have available.

Google 'counselling services in dubai' and you'll get a lot of results. There are services out there, just be prepared to pay for them.
Keep your head WAY down if you have these kinds of problems. Quickest way to get fired is to admit to having a weakness.

Does Al Noor definitely have a counsellor? Just wondered as the quality of service there varies such a lot: I don't rate them on the walk-in clinic AT ALL (2 misdiagnoses out of 2) but some of the specialists are OK.

Gus, if 'the U' = UAEU then there were a couple of trained counsellors on the Maqam campus a couple of years ago, ought to still be there but don't know if they also worked with guys. I heard of an independent counsellor here last week and will try and check the details and get back to you.

The 'counselors' at Maqam Campus are locally trained to work in career counseling. The only one with a clinical psychology degree is 'abnormal'.
Please look elsewhere. Abu Dhabi or Dubai. This is difficult in a place that still stigmatizes getting the help one needs and deserves.
All the best.

I was unsuccessful in getting any referral or counseling help. Fortunately, the person I've been dealing with is no longer suicidal... however, without treatment of the underlying problems he is likely to feel that way again.

The article in today's National may explain why nobody was willing to talk to me:

Well... that will certainly clear up the problem and make the patient feel so much better. Rolling Eyes
